I recently installed a new motherboard and hard drive in my eMachines computer, so basically it's no longer an eMachines computer as far as I can see. At that time the XP operating system was reloaded (purchased from Novatech) as the original software bundle no longer worked due to the upgrades. There is a Windows update that keeps downloading, but will not install. I tried to get help from the Microsoft website, but it says since the computer is a package/bundle I need to go back to the computer manafacturer, or pay them for support !!! If I go into the system options box through control panel, it still says system is "Manufactured and supported by eMachines", so assume the eMachines identity is still somewhere in the machine. Any idea how I can remove this ?

it sounds like that when you reinstalled xp, it just done a repair install, and not a total reinstall, i surgest doing a full reinstall of xp and when windows asked if you want to format the drive, select a full format and not the quick format. just a quick qestion, when you done the reinstall, did you get promted for the cd key?

Initially I reused the hard drive, but have since replaced it with a bigger one. I used Western Digital Data Lifeguard to transfer files.

well it looks like the origional comp id got transfered as well, becourse you done a freash install with xp on a new mobo and harddrive and a new copy of xp there should be no prob, but it looks like somehow the origional comp id got moved as well and thats causeing probs. which files did you transfer over over, was there any core files copyed by mistake?
