Am going to pretty much refit my whole pc, thought I'd run the spec past you fellas to see if you can spot any obvious gaffes I may be making (noob as I am). Will be OCing to 3GHz (with luck), main use is music production, no flashy graphics or nowt. Posted this under mobos for lack of any better ideas as to where it should go.
Q6600
Asus P5KC mobo
crucial ballistix 2 x 1GB DDR2 PC-8500
Hiper 530 Watt black ATX PSU
Samsung spin point F1 SATA 500GB
Asus lightscribe SATA DVD writer
Arctic cooler freezer 7 pro fan
Is the RAM speed overkill? Any known issues with the mobo? etc
Cheers guys

I don't know what it is about Crucial Tracers that gets everyone salivating.
These £54 Geil 2X 2GB DDR2-800 look much better value to me, and plenty of overclock margin:

Complete SPD tables too, which is always good.

Its just one of those crazes
Although the tracers PC-8500 are cheaper and are effectively the same ram as the Geil ones at PC-8500.
You could get the 800mhz ones although the ram being at 1066 means there's no bottle neck in the system. Although make sure that the ram FSB is the same for the motherboard otherwise its pointless.

thats beast ram :D all i can say, if u get that your system will end up being very similar to mine, P5KC, Black Dragon, Freezer 7 pro, and psu, all of which are brilliant :D

Lol i think it must be those bright blue neon lights or the flashing led's. They are just different i think and fancy lol. But yeah i would get the 800mhz and not the 1066mhz as they are 800's overclocked anyhow. But the rest looks all in order, maybe consider the f1 750g or 1tb as they a little faster but all in all nice build. Oh just a quicky there is no onboard gfx on that motherboard so you will need a gpu.

ah yes good catch there jonny, but other than that the motherboard especially is sweet m8 :D

everything looks great, Ballistix Tracers are popular because they love voltage, higher voltage will allow very tight RAM times.
i think you've missed the graphics card

If your planning to go to 3GHz on that chip, I would recommend something a little bit more powerful than the AC Freezer Pro 7, see if you can get yourself ahold of a ThermalRight 120 Ultra, they will take it right up to 3.4 no problems ;) Matz, you should of told him!!

Theres nothing wrong with the frezzer pro 7, its fine for the Q6600, perhaps if he was gonna experiment and go beyond the 3.0ghz limit, it would be advisable to invest now rather than later when he discovers that it isnt man enough for the job, but for now its more than adequate.

Freezer 7 Pro is fine up to 3-3.2ghz, i aint tried it beyond that, but if thats not fast enuff 4 u well...

as above said, Freezer 7 is a really good cooler.
but i would not make any guarantee with overclocks. 3.2Ghz on Freezer 7 is highly likely. overclocking is all about luck, eg. i've got a VID of 1.325v, so i struggle at 3.6Ghz with world's best air cooler: Thermalright Ultra 120extreme cooler.

Okay, my bad LOL I have read that some people only manage to get up to around 2.8! I guess it is my mistake.. and yes I have to agree the AC Freezer Pro 7 is an amazing cooler for under £20! Take a look at my sig. by the way.. I do not want to clock it any more (had it running at 4.4x2, 314FSB but I was worried about my VRMs as Steve told me in another thread!) so I downclocked it back to 3.794x2 which is plenty fast enough for me now :)

What is your vcore at 3.6 Wu?
my quad at 3.2ghz is running at stock voltages (1.275 if im correct) i can get 3.6ghz stable with one press + on the voltage in bios

Each stock is different, depending on your vid, use cpuz to check what volts are being used, in our bios is it set to auto?

VID: 1.325 (ouch, probably worse q6600 ever)
Vcore at 3.6Ghz (running it now) 1.55v after Vdroop. temperature tops at 70c
but i prefer to keep it at 60c, so running 3.4Ghz or 3.2Ghz, depends on room temperature.

Yeah ouch, i did wonder how come your temps were so high. Yeah 70 is a little over the comfort zone isnt it.
