Bit of a novice on the E8400 here. Seems to run 40 degrees at idle and about 60 degrees on full load. Do these temps seem normal?

Seems OK to me on a stock heatsink.
Wolfdale 45nm stuff doesn't run much cooler than Conroe 65nm by all accounts. Voltages are much the same.

You tell me! :lol:
Those blue plastic ones are foxconn, I reckon. You'll find them listed at misco.
The Intel stock ones are plain noisy... :roll:

Must be an Intel Stock fan as it's black, round heatsink, and has Intel on the fan. Don't think it's that noisy. Cheers anyway.

I get a bit fanatical about quietness when watching movies and stuff.
Still haven't decided on my next CPU cooler and power supply.
Arctic Cooling 7 or Akasa 965. :?
reset your heatsink , you should be geting better idle and loads.. my mate in america is geting around the 30s not 40s mate :) and now hes got the TR120x
if your worried about your temps grab an artic cooler 7

Yeah, grab an AC Freezer PRO 7, they are amazing for their price and will be good for your system, probably dropping the idle temps to about 25 - 30 max ;) and the load temps to 45 max
me & mad are wandering what runs hotter Q6600 or Intel Pentium D 915 2.8x2

Well it must depend on room temp because at idle it's been running 30-32 degrees will keep an eye on it, thanks for the replies. :D

From what i have read, all temps use the ambient temp as a baseline (as that is the temp of the air the fans are bringing in). So you can expect some temps like this:
Ambient + 10C (+2/-2) = Idle
Idle + 15C (+2/-2) = Load
This is what my temps seem to be atm (British "summer")
Ambient = 25C
Idle = 32-35
Load = 47-50
I consider these temps to be quite good considering the heat
