Seeing as i havent been keeping an eye on the prices of the newer ddr3 ram lately, have just been quite shocked as to the low prices available now, so I guess all new builds from now should be ddr3 advised at those prices.

Cas Latency of 9 at 1333 speed for 2X 1GB for £90 at Nova, or CL7 at 1600 for for 2X 1GB at £190:

I'd be interested what Wuyanxu thinks about this. He's usually the guy with the inside track on the newest technology. :?

Dont think it'll make a huge amount of difference to the normal desktop user.

Nahh most probably not, you will see it in games though I reckon! To be honest with my CPU at 3.0x2 and 800MHz RAM I can see a massive performance gain compared to my dads standard 3.0x2 with 667 RAM to be honest with you. Mine absolutely FLIES through files copared to his :) Fair enough I got a slightly higher FSB and all that lot but it shouldn't make that much of a difference! Even at 2.8 I beat him on boot up's and file browsing!!

yerrr but his comp is probs full of bloatware, and upping the front side bus up increasing the speed of EVERYTHING in the computer so you would be surprised

OOh, well if you look on ebay shops, they have some of the older ram dirt cheap. If youre looking for hardware bargins I get a lot of ideas from BenchtecUK as there always getting cheap stuff to OC the **** out of.
Theres also a 4gb 1600mhz kit on scan for around £200 IIRC

lol, im just a uni student....... ask coop or Novatech technicians.

to be honest, i personally think it's still not the right time to buy DDR3. especially considering i got my 8GB for the same price as the 2GB Corsair you linked, while latancy is doubled and frequency only upped a tiny bit.

when 4GB 1600Mhz is under 100 pounds, IMHO that's when we should buy DDR3. probably be in around end of this year.

im not going to buy it until motherboards supports 16GB+ and 6GB trio's will cost less than £100. (Nehalem will be Trio channel instead of dual channel) so P45 Maximus 2 Formular + Geforce GTX 280 + possibly q9650 for me.

No point buying it till it's the cheapest / going to be worth the extra in terms of longevity. At the end of the day desktop applications just don't stress memory.
