It was interesting. Wish I had a RAID controller.
RAID means Redundant Array of INEXPENSIVE Disks.
Game, Set and Match to The Squid, I think.

See 7 if you changed your mobo you could have all the wonderful things like 3ghz overclock and raided hdd's lol
Still will stand by that the Samsung 500gb F1 will give a good match to the hard drive Squid linked to
you guys think i am missing out with my sata 250GB maxtor, speed wise? when this harddrive is full im gonna buy the 750GB F1

Haha, faster disks arent that noticable, until you go onto another pc. My brother and dad both use 8gb 7.2k disks, and going onto theirs from my raptors is just stone age.

i'd definiitely notice quicker startups

bad point:
raid 0, yes is faster but has a realibility factor of <mean time to single disk failure> / <number of disks in array>. (in english, it falls over easy)
ill stick with the raid 5.
but am definetly intrigued by raid 50/60... cards are super expensive though.

well iv had htis ide drive 2 years and it's not deadded yet, i mean the new well made drives should last at least 4 years and everyone on here will probs have upgraded in 4 years which is the point, the reason everyone overclocks, that cpu with a 10 year life span is gna get upgraded within 4 years so there is no reason not to! everyone iv talked to that has had a raid array has been fine!

I dont see why having 2, makes the life shorter...
If raptors last say 5 years, putting 2 in raid doesnt make them die after 2.5... does it?

its just the mean equasion for working out stripes. Even a delayed write fail or a sudden inconsistancy on one of the drives will cause the array to fail. meaning a reinstall! :(
