View Full Version : xbox 360 not picking up external hardrive

Hi Guys/Girls
Havnt posted in awhile.
Here is my problem.
I have a freecom 500gb external hardrive connected to my pc which is a Energiser Pro. Its set to share however my xbox 360 will not pick it up as a shared external device even thow it is set to shared. I have tried everything i can think of like dropping all the video files i want to share into media player and changing the permisions on the hardrive to allow everyone but ive got know were. Can i please ask for help with this as i am ready to pull my hair out with it lol.

To be honest, I think the XBox can only pick up files from your internal hard drive, I have not tried it but I think that it can only pick up files from there. Have you tried plugging the external hard drive into the XBox itself?
your xbox360 will only recognize files that are on your windows OS installation for me on XP that was c:// drive and i had partitioned it and was pissed off that i only had 80GB on my c:// so i just wiped the whole thing and started from scratch

format the drive as FAT32 - that worked for me, and I could get all my piccies and music onto the 360 that way.

Hey guys thanks for the response
I have it formated to FAT32, doesnt help for me sorry.
I have tried changing permisions and everything dont have a clue even considerng giving ms themselves a call see if they know anything
My friend has had problems with xboxes not picking up his external hard drive wheather plugged into xbox or the copmuter I dont think all hdds are compatable with xboxes
as i said before it only picks up the main drive that windows has been installed on
i love watching videos wirelessely from my pc to xbox 360 :mrgreen:

hi
i found out how to do it.
You need to open up windows media player, then go too libary then to add to libary, once in here click on advanced options and add the location of the hardrive or the folder within the hardrive you wish to share.
