Hello,

Is there a BIOS upgrade for the Navigator 14". I got this notebook before it was called the navigator, but cant remember what it was bring sold as. Anyway it is a 1.8 Centrino 14" Wxga.

The current version shows something along the lines of;

System - 1.03
EC - 2.02

I am having problems with nearly constant fan noise and now reduced battery life. I went into bios to have a look see if i could slow the fan down and did a restore to default. this seems to have coincided with the battery life being reduced. Is this likely?

please can you provide your NNB- Code or if possible your serial Number which will be in the following format

xxxxxxx-***

We will then be able to see exactly what system hardware you have and then look for resolution

I have a Navigator 14". I believe that this has a MiTAC 8011 chassis, and you can download the latest BIOS (1.06) and embedded controller (2.03) firmware images from mtc.mitacservice.com. I hope that this update will provide the correct ACPI table entries for the Dothan processor. (I have to use the acpi-cpufreq module for frequency scaling at the moment, and it only gives two frequencies: 0.6 and 1.7 GHz, as in Windows. Hopefully I'll be able to use speedstep-centrino and get four frequencies...)

They also provide the flashing utilities. However, they don't provide any instructions on how to use them so I've e-mailed notebooktech@mitacuk.com. As far as I know, these are real-mode utilities (i.e., run only under some form of DOS). But what options to provide to these tools? I haven't a clue.

There's loads of other stuff at mtc.mitacservice.com including service manuals, engineers' reports, design specs, and graphs about power control, charging, fan trip-points and speed control, practically everything you'd want to know.

Except how to update the BIOS.
