HELP Wireless switch?- internet suddenly stopped working

I have a wireless internet connection on my laptop which has suddenly stopped working but dont know why. I havent changed anything and computer is protected against viruses. Windows says that all hardware is installed properly so should be working but isnt but says to check that your WIRELESS SWITCH is turned on- what is this????? PLEASE HELP

there should be a button on the laptop that when you press it, it will turn the wi-fi connection on, which laptop do you have?
