I have an old Dell Latitude notebook PC it runs under Millenium 2000 operating system.
If I bought from Novatech a Belkin 54g Wireless Notebook Adapter and plugged it in
would it connect the PC to the internet or is it just a local wireless (Bluetooth) connection.
If it does connect to the internet how does it do this?
If it does not connect to the internet what have I got to get from Novatech so that it does?
I use a very similar product from Belkin and it does not have Bluetooth. It connects to the internet via WiFi. For this you must have a Wireless connection where you use you laptop (work or home)from a wireless router . It does not directly connect to the internet itself. Where will you be using this and what gear have you got?

Beside the Dell Latitude I have two PCs, a Dell Inspiron 8500 which I use mainly for Email and the Internet,
and I have a Novatech Tower not on the Internet that I use for electronics applications. I'm a retired electronics
lecturer and I have a MikroElektronika EasyPIC5 Development board connected to the Novatech tower via
a USB port.
I'm also a member of the local Parkinsons group and some of its members know much less about PCs than
I do and I don't know a lot, I mainly use a PC for my interest in microcontroller electronics. Some of the
Parky club members live alone and having a PC to communicate with friends and family members would
be excellent, it would stave off periods of depression.
I'm trying to become familiar with setting up an email and internet system so that I can advise them.
What I meant by gear was do you have a router or do you connect to the internet via a built in modem.
I you use a built in modem then you need to get a router or use your wireless dongle in some where that has a wireless connection for instance Starbucks
If you have a router then you can use you usb stick in your house to connect to the internet.
