Hi All,

Recently having a few problems with my X2 4200 Dual Core machine. Was wondering if you could help...

When I press the power button on my machine, the power goes on in the PC, the case lights come on, but no signal is sent to the monitor. The hard drive light doesn't come on either. The CD drive light is on but stays on, and the drive is locked so I can't open it. So I just power it off.

Unfortunately, it gets worse. When I start my computer up after this... no power goes through the PC, nothing comes on at all (not even the case lights) and I collapse in a confuzed heap on the floor :)

I haven't found a suitable way to rectify it or get around the problem, but sometimes when I turn all power off at the mains, then press the power button to 'empty' the PC of its leftover power, then turn it all back on again, it works. But not always... and this morning it took over 50 mins to get it started up and working.

The number of days between this happening has been slowly getting shorter too, so much so that its now happening every single day.

Any help would be most appreciated...

whats your power supply

Its got a 480W power supply in it.

BTW, this all might just be futile I'm afraid. In the last 15 mins my PC game went to a black screen. Windows XP now displays a blue stop error screen on every startup (safe-mode and normal startup). I've tried to repair Windows but it now doesn't even recognise my RAID array after I installed the drivers.

At a guess, maybe one of the RAID drives has gone... ?

Anyways... no more Elder Scrolls: Oblivion for me today... :(

have you tried your old graphics card to see if that works, if it is a raid problem then it is bad luck, but i had a raid prob, but i just reconnected the drives and it worked fine.

Thanks. I'm hoping it ain't a RAID prob, but knowing my luck probably will... :) I'll give reconnecting them a try. Thanks

I have a good feeling. started up my PC with no problem this morning (usually wouldn't started the monitor at all).

Tried installing Windows XP last night... recognized the RAID array with np, and even got into Windows OK. some of the cables inside were tied up a little tight, so I loosened the ties off a bit and I think it might be working.

Thanks, Taxation :)

If you are ever experiencing problems with a RAID (drives being detected, reporting as failed or broken etc) then the first thing to check is the cables to the drives. Make sure they are physically sound and that they are secured into the drive and motherboard. SATA cables are not a 'solid' connection like IDE

Good to know, thanks. I'll have to keep that in mind in the future in case I get this problem again.
