Serial ATA, is based on Harddrives taking away P-ATA from using the same ATA "harddrives" these are alot better than the old IDE harddrives because the old ones use to take up alot of airflow space in your case that is very restricting, so they invented SATA, there is also Sata2 and both of these can handle speeds of up to 1.5GB/s and 3GB/s except that no harddrive atm cant even do 1.5GB/s

Serial ATA is good, alot more diskspace can be used in a harddrive constructing more platters IE 1TB from 3x334GB drivers.
they also need "NON 4pin molex power" they need SATA power connectors if your pc doesnt have one you would need a converter that would take one of your 4pin molex :)

Its a new cable design because the old one sucked, not because of the airflow. You can get a lot more bandwidth with the new interface, its like usb and parralel is for printers.

The platters are just evolving, its nothing to do with sata, but its all good, as they get faster and more power efficient.

sorry to keep disagreeing with you matz, but my sata drives all have a 4pin molex connecter on them as well, no need for adapters...
