i have looked on a few shops and the death of the 754 skt AMD 64 processor has come.
now that AM2 has come out, everywhere has seem to of gotten rid of their 754 skt cpu.s
So by next year i think that 939 will be heading out of the door aswell.
i am annoyed at this, because the new AM2 cpu.s overclock more and are the same price, and i just got me a new system, so i am not a happy bunny

754 went years ago. Okay they are available to buy but there is no point since 939 is what AMD release all the new stuff on. Anyone that bought 754 in the last year was just throwing money at the drain.
The 939 will be around for a good year or 2 yet i expect.
It's annoying i know, but you can't complain. They have to change at some point. If they didn't we'd all still have K6's. Sometimes you buy at the right time, sometimes you don't.
I'm thinking that with my laptop, when 2 months later loads of dual core ones come out :(
Also this is one reason why i didnt buy first gen 64bit. i knew there would be no need for it and they'd weed out all the bugs and problems then change the socket. I'm hoping AM2 will last a good few years

On the other hand 754 is still has a very powerful range and will now start dropping in price. If you don't upgrade your CPU and leave the rest of the machine the same then there are going to be massive financial benefits.

Why the shock? Cheaper more powerful components are good news. All round.

AMD have officially stopped production on its 939 socket processors, and switching production to its AM2 socket cpu's.
Companies are buying the last of the stock and the prices are tumbling like crazy on some E-tailers.
So if you want something that is good an cheap then socket 939 will be good, get an AMD 64 4000+ for about £170, thats about £70 off!!
