If my first post is in the wrong section then I'll apologise now...!

I'm a keen gamer, and am curious about gamepads. I play first person shooters, avatar and strategy games, and I was wondering how compatible gampeads actually are. Please could someone clue me in?

i am more of a key board and mouse guy, but i play the xbox like a mad man, cos i own all my mates at halo 1 and halo 2, i know that there is a converter for xbox controllers so they can go into the pc.

if your looking for a good controller for your pc i would get an xbox 360 wired controller. microsoft have released windows drivers for the controller.

i used to play a few pc games with keyboard and mouse. i have jsut started far cry on my 360, it took a while to get used to using a controller instead of keybaord and mouse but after a few hours it was fine.

Thanks guys. I don't know the Xbox, I'm afraid, I can use this on strategy games just as easily?

Far Cry rules.

mouse and keyboard is easier for strategy, but for first person shooters the controller rules, well for halo it rules :P

The controller port on the XBOX is simply a strange shaped USB port. If you have any soldering skill at all it is very simple to wire up an XBOX controller to a standard USB connection.

There are drivers available by a team XBCD - click here (http://www.redcl0ud.com/xbcd.html)

Not up for a project? Get an XBOX360 controller.

Hmmm the wired is out of stock. Is the wireless no good to me?

i have been told that you can use the wireless controllers but you also need the play and charge kit to connect it to the PC. the wireless receiver for the 360 is built into the console, unlike other consoles wireless controllers that come with a receiver the plugs into the gamepad port.

i am not to sure when any of the 360 accessories are coming in to stock. if you want to get a conrtoller quick you can get them from places like game and most big supermarkets like asda.

Just wanted to check, were you playing Far Cry on an Xbox, or on a PC with an Xbox handset? Only I can't get the PC game to recognise the gamepad at all.
