I wouldnt upgrade the PSU in a Dell. You may actually blow the thing up. Dell use their own parts in their machines and switch 2 cables around in the 24pin ATX power.

Asce, yet another reason why NOT to buy a Dell ayy ;)

Your basically tied to Dell if you have one of their machines and want to upgrade it.

Not true, Asce, my old friend. About 6 years back they did proprietary power supplies with the connections swapped around, so they would blow up if you replaced with a standard ATX. These days, they are OK. But I would compare the old with the new on colour coding on the 24 pin connector before swapping. :)

I still wouldnt risk it. You never know if they switched it right after the transformer. But if it does work then either the Corsair or Zalman will be great. I currently use the Zalman and havent got a single problem with it. Well maybe apart for the thing being so **** heavy :o.

Isn't there a rule of thumb that says the heavier the PSU, the better.

Something to do with good heatsinks. :P

Asce

Yeah but not an arm numbing 2-3kg. Its not like Zalman have fitted as many heatsinks in it as they can. They have their heatpipe design which should add to the weight that much.

Dont trust running a CF rig with a 600w with my system.

TheMadDutchDude

Haha alright :P

Sorry but I don't send money through the post, mainly because it is a private sale and (not saying you would) but they might just run off with the cash and not actually send me the item I had just paid for. Would much prefer to do it through a hand to hand trade to be honest. But Reading is a bit far to travel to get a PSU :(

if he does sell you his psu, you could always set up a paypal transaction to get it sorted, its safe, secure and if there are probs you can get your money back

Its going to be a hamie down for a different rig

TheMadDutchDude
27-06-2008, 08:58 PM
Yeah, pitty Rich didn't know about that, Asce is building up a rig to take to LAN parties, his current one is too heavy to take with him so he is going to make a new one out of his old components. Should be sweeet :)

Asce

i didnt know they changed it to a stupid location. Bet the transport system isnt great. At least with it being in Newbury you had a train station just yards away. Plus theres a burgerking just down the road

thats the good thing, hopefully they go back coz the contract has ended (few years left and then they can renew) only cost me £3 max to get there via bus + train now its gonna cost alot more than that.
