DON'T even think about pratting around with these...

I had a go... FORTUNATELY I backed up the internal firmware before I DID IT..

It still took me 6 hours to recover it..I had to follow the emergency reboot procedure - that involves shorting the NVRAM chip to it goes into a different mode.

I'm all for upgrades and tinkering but there is a 99% chance that you will break your player..

The comments from Novatech are very valid here!

iF ANYONE does trash theres I can recover it (well..have a go for them) as I've got the procedure down to a fine art now...but my advice is LEAVE WELL ALONE

The upgrades did nothing. I was hoping it might display the ID3 tags.. but mine is not capable..

But I know how to change the contrast and the "make " of the player now in firmware.

Lesson 1 - If it aint broke...don't fix it
