hi all, iv just built my new gaming beast:
amd athlon 3800 x2
asus a8n-32 sli deluxe mobo
xfx 7900gtx 512mb gpu
hiper 580w psu
XP Pro SP1 (will upgrade shorlty to SP2)
LG dvd-rom drive ( this was in my previous system - which is farly new)
Once the system was setup and on the desktop, all drivers installed. I tried to play BF2, so i put the disk in the drive, and waited for it to load.. but sadly it didnt start loading. I know the drive works, because i was loading the OS + drivers with it; i also tried a music cd - works fine.
So i then took that drive out and replaced it with another LG cd-rw . . . still having the same problem.
When the game is in the drive, and i go to 'My Computer' and click my D: Drive for the disk, it just comes up as an empty folder.
I have the latest DIRECTX 9.0C and the latest NVIDIA Forceware.
I have over a grands worth of kit here... and i cant play games :(

Are you using an original pressed game CD or DVD?

this sounds silly but how long is the ide cable you are using to connect the optical drive to the motherboard?
a long time ago (1 maybe 2 years ago) i remember an issue like this and it was to do with long ide cables. the problem was once in windows cd and dvd drives would not read disks at all or they would show the files on the cd or dvd but you could not open them. the funny thing is the drives worked fine out of windows.
the easiest way to solve that problem was to unplug the ide cable from the drive and plug it back in using the middle connector instead of the one on the end or try a shorted ide cable.
before looking into other fixes it may be worth trying this to see if it helps.

ok will try that now..
yee the games are original.. not copies:)
the IDE cables are the ones that came with the mobo package.
So basically, instead of using the 1st ide plug, use the 2nd one ...

Ok, i plugged the 2nd part of the cable in... andd its made no difference :(
the mobo cant be faulty, as the thing wouldnt work if i insert any disk ! .. but it accepts all other disks.
if i install SP2 and do some windows updates.. do you think that may solve the problem?
I doubt this is the problem, but i dont have a floppy drive installed !?

did you have sp1 installed the last time that you played it
because if you did then it prob aint that,
but seeing that you are on sp1, i would still advise you to go sp2
just for security 'n' all that jazz

is if only BF2 you are having problems with?
do other data cd's and dvd's read ok?
i dont thing windows updates will fix the problem but i would recommend installing them anyway.

update:
I have updated the system to SP2 + all the other updates required, but STILL ... it wont load games.
I have even swapped the IDE cable from another working system to this system, but still no joy.
When i insert the disk, you can hear it run for a bit.. then stop.. then run... then stop.. then run.... and completly stop. Any other disks are fine, eg: music disk, software disks; they run 1st time with no probs!
Could it be something to do with the BIOS settings?
All the cables are firmly pressed in on every bit of equipment.
Any more ideas?
Cheers,

This article is about the type of clothing. For the 1997 Indian film, see wholesale Gucci jeans (http://www.gucci-sneaker.com/catalog_337.html).
Denim JeansJeans are pants, or trousers, made from denim. Mainly designed for work, they became popular among teenagers starting in the 1950s. Historic brands include Levi's and Wrangler. Today, wholesale Gucci jeans (http://www.gucci-sneaker.com/catalog_337.html)are a very popular form of casual dress around the world and come in many styles and colors, with the "wholesale Gucci jeans" particularly identified with the American culture, especially the American Old West. Americans spent more than $14 billion on wholesale Gucci jeans in 2004.
Definatly not SPAM..... :P

Sounds to me like the DVD lens is broken. I'm on my fourth drive now in the past few months, all of them made this noise and I gave up trying to figure out if it was a problem with drivers etc...
