View Full Version : DVD Maker capturing only monochrome video
Hi,
I just bought a DVD Maker with Power Director software (code KW-VSUSB).
Install went well, and I have the VHS player hooked up using S-Video and Audio.
Capturing seems to go well, but when I play the results they are in monochrome with sound, not the colour I would have expected.
Any suggestions on what I'm missing?
Thanks, Alan

Strange, do you have another computer which you can try this peice of kit out on?

When I plug my NTL/Virgin cable TV to my TV Tuner card using SCART to S-Video, it comes out in black and white. So I use the RF feed instead. Weird, huh. :?

I thought the yellow 4 pin was the S-Video... :?
Found this:
S-Video signals are generally connected using 4-pin mini-DIN connectors using a 75 ohm termination impedance. Today, S-Video can be transferred through SCART connections as well. S-Video and RGB are mutually exclusive through SCART, due to the S-Video implementation using the pins allocated for RGB. Most SCART-equipped televisions or VCRs (and almost all of the older ones) do not actually support S-Video, resulting in a black-and-white picture if attempted to use, as only the luminance signal portion is used. Black-and-white picture in itself can also be a sign of incompatible colour encoding, for example NTSC material viewed through a PAL-only device.
Careful, the reference is one of those russian sites... , seems OK though:

My thanks to the people that offered such invaluable advice to solve this problem.
To get to the solution I used two systems; a Novatech diy desktop system and a Novatech laptop; and two video sources; an antediluvian VHS player and an analogue camcorder.
Keys to success were:
- using the composite video input (yellow lead) - my VHS recorder is obviously one that does not implement S-Video correctly
- making sure that the latest DirectX SDK is installed before installing the CyberLink software packages
- making sure that the audio input is properly configured - it was fun when I got full colour video and no sound!!!
On to the next challenge............
