The P45's will do, well most will do. Im liking the voltage that they run at, but not the price :(

am wondering the same...

Would actually buy a new mobo if my old one doesn't. i975, I see no reason why it shouldn't but who knows...

I think the P45's are the only ones that support that ammount of RAM.

G.Skill say 16GB kits will work on P35, X38 and X48 chipsets.

im no way going above 2GB of ram until things start to progress, it would be very great to have counterstrike source all on the memory but i was wondering how i could do that a while back. would acourse have to buy a 2GB extra of ram

You would be better off with 2x2GB sticks Butler, remember you will be straining the memory controller more, and also, it will provide you with more upgradability in the future if you wish to take on 8GB of RAM.

theres no point in me upgrading, im first to get on the server and first to play while it changes map :) even at 2.4ghz/3ghz, raid helps alil and im sure i could cut that again abit if i had a better connection

hehe, I reckon id give you a run for your money, but vista is a hog of anything fast....

4gb makes sense on vista :) And mem controller straining, sure it does, but its designed for it :)

Wu is otherwise engaged at the moment, and is evidently not replying on this dubious "Quad Channel" hype.

My powerful network of spy bots did however intercept a recent message on the InterWeb, apparently from "Chairman Wu" himself.

IMHO, 8GB is well worth it. it might have lost out in your benchmarks, but if one is upgrading from 2GB, one will have 4x1GB sticks, which WILL perform less in comparison to 2x2GB.
so your recommendation of 2x2GB stands for current system builder. but i just want to add that 2x1GB kits should be considered useless now.

why 8GB is sweet?
1.5GB 0ms RAMdisk and very fast system response. 4GB might have seems faster, but 64bit Vista is perfect on 8GB. 4GB for 64bit Vista IMHO is not enough.
if one has the case, and building a £700+ rig, i think there is no reason to shrink away from 8GB.

when 4GB sticks are at right price (unlikely when Nehalem is so close) i will get 16GB. more IS better, you can never have too much disk space, same goes for RAM, you can never have too much RAM. same can also be said for CPU cores.
:P

Just one question, with RAMdisk... doesn't that mean you can run programs on your RAM and get mega quick loading times?

yes. but i dont play a game that needs quicker times.

yeah, if it will fit into it... not many games i can think of have installs that small these days.
