View Full Version : Problem with nVidia Latest Driver (175.19)

Downloaded this yesterday. Uninstalled old driver through 'Add & Remove Programs' as nVidia recommend. Ran the exe and was then asked if I wanted to reboot. I did so and that was the end of XP! It will go to the splash screen with the scroll bar and then screen goes black and nothing. Safe mode, last known good config etc don't work. Tried a repair from the XP disc and that just sits there 'examining' my HDD.
I'm not really looking for suggestions on how to fix this as I do this sort of thing for a living and just couldn't be @rsed last night to mess around.
Has anyone else had an issue? And yes, I did use the 64 bit driver!
Cheers

That is really strange TTE.
Rather than that, why not download the latest 177.79 driver? It has the CUDA enabled.
I think that the only way you're going to get around this is by doing a fresh install of XP.
I've never had that problem to be honest with you. I have to say it is quite strange, pointing towards a new reinstall. Or do you have System Restore Points? You can use the Windows recovery tool and go to your last safe known config. Maybe give that a whirl.
i dont unistall my old oens i just use the setup and install it

Had a day off yesterday, so decided to have a play as XP still wasn't booting. As it happens, I let it get to the point of getting past the XP splash and then the blank screen appeared. I then went out for a couple of hours and returned to find it on the XP desktop...Mmmmm.
To cut a long story short, it will *eventually* boot but it takes over an hour. I'm going to remove the nVidia drivers wirh DriveSweeper later and use the previous ones to see if that helps. However, I can see a full rebuild coming on..
where abouts in reading you live? anytime you need someone to help test parts im your man ;)

A kind offer Matz but to be honest with you, PC hardware is my living and I'm pretty set up as far as it goes!
I did what I said earlier and ripped out the offending driver with DriveSweeper and my PC now boots straight up. I've searched the net to see if anyone else has had the same issue and it appears that I'm alone with the issue. Bit of a pain 'cos I was looking forward to seeing the new physics engine in the demos...
