I'm running a GeForce 6600GT 128mb Novatech card.

The problem occured rather a while ago once I started getting tearing. Suggestions were that it was underpowered or maybe overheating, well I went round that problem and it has been fine since.

Untill recently, I can't remember what triggered anything but I removed the card and put in a GeForce MMX4 for the time being to be able to use my computer.
Now after formatting the HD to run this rig with the 6600GT it is not working again. This time instead of playing games to cause tearing it will tear when in 32bit on a resolution 800/600 or 1024/768, when loading windows :/. (because of this I cannot access the control panel of the GT because anytime the computer runs it using the drivers it dies I'm running in VGA mode atm on lowbit/lowres).

I've tried to overcome this problem by switching monitors but this has not helped (haven't tried the Digital Out).

The weird thing is I used to be able to push 100fps in games and have a refresh rate at 85hz on a 1024/768 resolution for hours without any problems occuring.

Is it possible that the card could run differently because of installing a game or something similiar? Because last I remember was that this error occured originally when playing Return To Castle Wolfenstein (1.4) and never suffered with Counter-Strike or more advanced like Doom III.

Just so you know: I'm running at the moment with the newest drivers for the card and I haven't updated to the new DirectX yet.

I'd like to think this is a software problem but I doubt it very much. What I'm wondering is; Is it a faulty card?; Could my setup causing it to malfunction?; Can I get it repaired if it is for relatively cheap compared to buying a similiar card that can run 2monitors at once?

Any help would be appreciated.

(I will post my components in a bit).

hhmmm tricky one here
it wouldnt be caused from installing a game
if the card came with an installation cd then install all the drivers, dirext X etc from that CD.

I'm bypassing the card at the moment. It's been running around 55-58 temp wise.

I can't see why if I'm running the card with it's drivers installed that if I up to 800/600 < that it suddenly tears and dies.

If it has been running fine before what has caused it to become faulty.

I guess the main questions are:
Can I take it to novatech to get repaired?
Does anyone know if this card had warranty?

all items from novatech have a warranty i would guess.
But, if you have overclocked it , or tampered with it in any way then that warranty will be broken

I'm currently using an ASRock K7S8X (SiS 746FX Chipset) with 512mb RAM. The Processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (clocks in at 1.92HGhz).

I used the 84.21 Forceware WinXP drivers. I also tried using the 77.77 because that's what I recall using once I first had the card (but I have not found the Nvidia Drivers disc).

I am currently running DirectX 9.0c.

Try 67.03 drivers...
