Hey guys,

Im looking for some advice for a friend,
his old wireless router is broken and he wants to get a new one.

Is there one you could recommend for me?

Thanks.

What sort of a budget does he have on it? Just wants to get a working one again I suppose?

EDIT: if he is on a BT line, I would go for this one, it is nice and cheap. My friend has the 108MB version of that router and has been on for well over a year without powering it off once (yes unbelievable I know!) and it is still running!) So it is a good and reliable router.

Yeah, not really on a budget.

Just one thats easy to use, set-up and is good value for money.

So any ideas? lol

You're welcome, hope it works for what he requires from a router :)

Let me know how it goes.

Did you check weather it was ADSL or DSL?

TheMadDutchDude

It is most likely to be ADSL, hence why I went for that one ;)

Sure, but I'm saying both are common, Virgin Media is very common and they use DSL/cable.

No harm in asking as you could be directing him to the wrong router type.

Very true, I see your point!

Who uses Virgin Media

If he doesn't want to fork out on a new router, join SKY with their free router option, I got it and I am very pleased so far (had them for 5 months so far I think)

SHHHH! LOL was only a bit of a joke.. :| I don't use them because I get my SKY tele, so might as well go on 16MB broadband (although I get 2.5MB...) for £10 a month :)

Yeah i use virgin get 10meg, all bt lines are a con if they say they are over 8 meg as bt lines cant actually carry that bandwidth so its a con and not sure how its allowed to be advertised as that. :?

Don't have a clue why they can advertise it as that Jonny. I find it so unfair that because you're in a bigger city than me you're allowed to have cable

My cable is sh*t to be fair, I get 3meg MAX out of it, meant to be up to 50meg, what a load of ****. Bring on Fibre Optics?

Yeah that depends on your area I am meant to be able to get 16MB out of my system but my phone line isn't up to it (as with all BT lines as I got told by Jonny).

Fibre optics is the way forward, some universities have it now to link together by like 1000MB/s connection so they get instant data transfers (up to a certain degree...) which is what we all want, I can't wait to get that kind of performance out of the net, no more lag please? :D

By the way, you're graphics card... just a quick fact. It isn't good to keep it OCed all the time, it is okay for benchmarks but then you should turn it back down. You will get a thing called Artefacts which will give you red and blue dots your V RAM is getting on the edge of breaking and you're going to have to buy a new one, it is as far as I know a common problem from OCing so I don't think that they are going to replace the card under warranty. It VOIDs your warranty, same as with OCing your CPU but they are much easier to keep stable, graphics cards are not to predictable.

Yeah - don't worry I know about that, it's not overly OC'd, will be fine. IF I get any artifacts then I'll tone it down. Appreciate the concern though.

you speaketh untruths!!! look up adsl2, thats the same lines but 'up to' 24 meg, i get around 9-11meg downloads from mine. basically triples your current ADSL speed, all you need is bt to upgrade your excahnge, and to have an ISP that is adsl2 enabled.
