Hi everyone,
I have some troubles with my PC since 2 weeks or so. First, I had a red background that said : "Your privacy is in danger - Protect your privacy" with multiple popups from Antivirus XP 2008, which I know is a spam now.
For the last 2 weeks, I couldn't update my antiviruses and antispywares, and I couldn't finish any scan neither.
This problem seems now corrected, but I still can't do those things :
1) Attach files with my emails (I'm on Yahoo, but it is the same thing via Hotmail too);
2) Send emails that are too long, or emails with multiple "RE" messages;
3) Attach photos in listing on sites like eBay or iOffer
Seems like the process is done, but nothing happens really.
Besides, my PC is kind of slow, like when I click on a mp3 file, Winamp is long to open, same thing with a pic, etc.
Some links (must say almost all) via Google redirect me to another site. On the status bar ? (not sure about the term), when I click on a link, some things like "analitic-checks.google", "go.google.com", "64.111.197.163", "abcjmp.com", etc. Some sites are not accessible too, when I try to get to a site, there is a message of error, as if my internet connection failed. Seems like **** to me...:-(
I will post a HiJackthis scan in the next minutes.
Thanks for anyone who could help, I appreciate it very much !!!
Alex

HijackThis can be a useful diagnostic if you use it regularly to see what's newly arrived on your PC.
DLACTRLW.EXE has got me scratching my head. Could be a trojan. Dunno. You could run your virus scan in F8 safe mode to confound the sort of malware processes that load themselves in normal running.
But really, m8, life is too short to faff about with a flaky install, whatever the cause.
Get yourself the hard drive setup utility for your brand of drive, partition the disk into two halves and reinstall Windows to the first partition.
You can in future save data to the second partition, and even a stable image of the first partition if you have Maxtor or Seagate drive and their Acronis setup utility burnt to CD-R. Or better still, fit a second hard drive. Windows on a single drive is just a disaster waiting to happen. A backup strategy is a good investment of your time.
If you want to browse safely on the darker portions of the Net, you can use a Mandriva Linux Live CD. Nothing can get past that onto your PC. :P

The strange thing is I cannot run my PC in safe mode...seems like it jams somewhere...

No, nothing happens, that's all...
It is written "safe mode" in every corner of the monitor, if I remember...but it won't come to the desktop.

Well. your next port of call is probably a repair install from a Windows XP disk if you have one.
But I still think a fresh install is indicated here... :wink:
