View Full Version : Windows Repair
Is there a way to repair windows XP? My Matrix Pro only comes with what seems like a clean install disc, and I'm sure my old xp home edition gave me the option to repair windows.
Also, if you do a new install, how do you prevent windows from installing on both hard drives like mine did!
It installed on the C: drive, then next time I booted, asked for my boot CD and did the same on the second drive, deleting everything of course.

Using a Recovery CD you will be unable to repair an installation. Using a full retail or OEM CD will give you these options.
The CD should only install to the primary drive unless you have an array (RAID) so I cannot explain this.

that problem only normally occurs when mixing raid controller disks with IDE bus disks.
try unplugging the disk that you dont want windows installed on. check in the bios what BUS your main HDD is on. e.g. (Primary Slave)
in this case the main drive will be dubbed HDD-1 in the boot devices list. make sure that this one is set as the second or third boot device. the first being your cd-rom drive. *optional* FDD second.
you could always try plugging the other drive in to see what happens when you boot the machine.
if it doesn't boot then unplug that drive and try to boot the machine again. if it boots its probaly a case of messing with the boot devices until it works.
with the restore cd's we have here, the only option is to unplug the hd you want the data left on...
bit late, sorry :(
