Firstly, you get what you pay for.

Secondly, when you are going to spend a fair amount of money on a tv, make sure you go and look at it first.

The same thing applies with all hifi equipment too. You should go and see what you are buying, see that you like the picture, test it out check what it has, what it looks / sounds etc etc.

I was in ASDA buying beer last week. I walked down the techy aisle, and glanced at a 32" Sony widescreen connected to a sky box (no idea if it was hdtv sky input). It wasn't a cheap model pricing at £1299! All i can say is what a terrible picture. The blacks we're greyey-blue, everything looked wrong, colour transistions didn't seem smooth, looked overly digital.

The only advantage i could think of that it has to the 10 year old 32inch phillips in my house is that it is probably 1/5th of the weight and 1/10th of the size. I thought if this is HDTV gimme "crappy" old analogue any day.

The moral of this story is, look at what you are buying or you might end up with a £1299 badge :p
