I have a Novatech bought PC with a Foxconn M/b. Intel 3Ghz, 512mb etc.
Every now and then i get the BSOD with the following stop codes:

0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80550211, 0xBA7EFB94, 0x00000000)

0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80550211, 0xB9BBBB94, 0x00000000)

Any ideas? I think it is related to memory - i have switvhed the stick to the other memory slot, and tried other known working sticks.

I have tried other known working graphics cards in case of this.

I have tried loading fail-safe values in BIOS, but still get the error. Recently it has occured everytime i have tried to upgrade Windows but has previous happened at random times.

Is a BIOS update worth a try or is my M/B shot in some way?

Any help appreciated

off the top of my head c0...5 is access denied - we see that a lot because not many people have admin privs. But, we occasionally see it when there is some sort of hardware fault, ie writing for failing/failed memory, or something is trying to write to incorrect memory space. Have you updated to SP2?

It would be worth performing a memory test : click here (http://forum.novatech.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=437)

If you performed a BIOS update and are now getting a Blank screen this would suggest failed BIOS flash or incorrect BIOS file was flashed.

Please provide details on what file you used for the flash.

What PC do you have, we need to check the flash file used against what board was in the system

thanks for the quick reply..

i have a Foxconn 661M03-G-6EL M/B, and used the latest file i could find on the website, using the Foxconn Super Update utility.

OK this certainly does look like a failed BIOS flash.

Hopefully the BOOT block section of the BIOS is still intact cause if so we can attempt to perform a BIOS recovery.

Unfortuantly if we cannot perform recovery this Board would probably have to come back to us to be repaired.

I will need to confirm exactly what file should be used with this board so i will check when i am in the office tomorrow and provide file and instruction with regard to BIOS recovery.

BIOS RECOVERY PROCEDURE FOR AWARD BIOS
--------------------------------------------------------

1. Create a bootable floppy diskette

2. Copy the BIOS file and flash utility to the diskette

3. Create a text file with any standard text editor and add the following lines

@ECHO OFF

awdflash xxxx.BIN /py/sn/f/cc/r

Exchange the awdflash with the name of whatever flash utility you are using, and replace the xxxx.BIN with the name of the BIOS file you are using.

4. Save this as autoexec.bat and place on the diskette along with the flash utility and BIOS Bin file.

5. Insert floppy Disk in to machine that has failed BIOS flash and turn on. Depending on the state of your BIOS you may or may not get display during BIOS flash but it will flash without any VGA Signal as long as BOOT Block is Intact. System should reboot within a couple of minutes if succesful. If after 5 minutes system has not rebooted and recovered it is most likely BOOT Block has failed and board will need BIOS CHIP repaired.

I will post BIOS file and flash Utility on here later today.

thanks again..

presume autoexec.bat will be:

@ECHO OFF

awdflash 464F1S35.BIN /py/sn/f/cc/r

---

dont need .exe after awdflash?

when you say make the floppy bootable what do i need to do? Just use the 'Create an MS-DOS startup disk' option in XP?

yes that is correct.

I normally use a Windows 98 Boot Disk as these have the old school dos but i cannot see any reason why XP MS DOS disk would not work.

my cdrom lights up when i power the pc, but i dont see a light on my floppy drive. fairly sure it worked, and its not the cable as when i turn this round the floppy light just stays on - i guess signalling the error!

if i do not get the floppy light on i presume my bios chip is dead? what an excellent utility that super update is then
