networking an xbox360

my current set up for broadband is a Speedtouch USB modem (had it for a few years now).

Ive recently connected my xbox 360 straight to my LAN in my PC. so if i wanna play online my PC has to be switched on.

Im aware that getting a router would mean i can go online with the xbox without having the PC on?

could someone recommend a good router that will allow me to do this.

You will need to use a CROSSOVER cable between the XBOX and PC and setup Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) - this will create a bridge between the connection and allow the XBOX access to the internet. You will need to have the computer switched on whenever you want to use the XBOX online.

The alternative is to purchase a modem/router. This will replace the Speedtouch modem you are using and create a true network.

when it comes to networking i always recomend netgear or dlink.

if you are going to order a router make sure you get the correct one for your internet connection. if your internet comes through a bt phone line you will need an adsl router and if its through a cable (like NTL) its dsl. because you have a USB modem you will have to order a modem / router in one.

At home i am on NTL (dsl) and i use this router with my PC, XBOX, XBOX360 all wired and my dad's PC laptop (wireless).

i found this router very easy to setup and i have not had any problems.

i agree here, i have used both netgear and d-link routers both are really easy to set up and use
