View Full Version : Windows XP Will Not Burn To CD
I load a blank CD, it opens the write files folder as it is set up to, but immediately I click on the wizard to start burning the files listed it says the disk isn't writeable.
I've tried a stack of blanks so far.
I've got the matrix PC with the the DVD combo drive.
Any ideas? I've checked for driver updates but it finds none.
Is there something on my drivers disk I should load?

Have you tried using any burning software?
Have you tried using any burning software?
I have succesfully burned an audio CD using Musicmatch Jukebox
I do have a copy of Nero I can load but shouldn't windows work without that?

This is depends on what your are trying to Burn. Windows XP only has very basic burning support in it. If they put in to much people like Nero would start accusing Microsoft of being anti-competitive and squeezing them out.
Please make sure that you have all latest updates for your machine. This will require you to perform a custom update rather than express from Windows Update so that you download software updates other than just critcal fixes.
Please explain in detail what you are trying to burn

It was only some jpgs. I've now loaded Nero and that did it ok.

Its a common misconception when people see the magic text that windows has improved cd writing capability under XP.
Unfortunately, unless you have WinMedia player 10, with now has built in Roxio to burn music tracks, you will always need a 3rd party such as Nero to carry out burning of any other type of file to a CD with any great success.
see text on this page, under the image of the winmedia player.
