right i never got into the whole overclocking thing at all infact the last time messed with a fsb speed was on a
AMD 3200 barton core when they was in lol

i see posts all over the place with q6600 cpus running over 3ghz + now i want mine to BUT just about everyguide i come across
tells you everything thing you need to know about overclocking this is the point i lose intrest

i don't wana know everything i just want to do 1 cpu mine the easy way

here are my pc spec

Q6600 go
gigabyte p35 ds3p
4gb ocz platinum pc 6400

i could just wack up the fsb to 333 but i wouldnt be sure i am doing the right thing or what effect this has on ram if any ?

Ok 333 is the simplist of oc, it will hit u straight to 3ghz without much bother, what you need to look for is the memory ratio and what the memory settings are set too, have a play know where your clr cmos is, or remove the battery to reset all settings, read your mobo manual learn your way round your bios. ;) So then at least you know what your trying to do.

i know my way arround the Bios mate have no problems clearing cmos or anything like that

"what you need to look for is the memory ratio and what the memory settings are set too"

mate are these the setting that can be seen from within cpuz

dram frq 400 mghz
fsb :Dram 2:3

rest is set at default for the ram 4,4,4,15 @2.1v
2T

oh dear i think you have created a monster lol

i just went into the bios and worked out what you mean in your other post lol

i wacked up the fsb to 333 leaving the memory setting on auto not good lol wouldnt boot cleared cmos setup Bios again
found the memory controls you said locked down the ram at its default speed fsb back up to 333 saved

booted right up and i have 3ghz now

gonna do some stress testing :D

Have a look at your memory with CPU-Z and see if it is running at sensible timings for your actual memory clock speed:
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

The memory tab tells you this. The SPD tab gives you sensible timings at various clocks. Thing is that when you overclock, often the memory gets overclocked too, and you need to set manual timings in the bios for stability. Every motherboard is different though. :)

ive give up on it for now mate

simply because my zalman 9500led cpu cooler was doing my head in

did have it running @3ghz and put it on prime95 for about 40 mins and it was running great

i have a good idea what am doing now so i will have another go in a few weeks

only think thats stopping me is the cooling i have now

i have a jeantech butterfly case that only has 2 80mm fans in it one of them is hiding behind 3 harddrives
so almost no air flow into the case or leaving

the enermax psu should suck warm air out of the case and vent it out the back but it seems to be blowing more hot air into the case than anything

all this will change very soon when i get the parts i need to move everything into the hiper case i bought last week
pics here viewtopic.php?f=35&t=27067 (http://forum.novatech.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=27067)
need to change out the fans in the new case for silent noctua's and also get rid of the zalman 9500 for a noctua cpu cooler
and a be quiet dark power pro 650w

once i get that sorted i will overclock it again at see how the sound is then

only 2 80's?

Is it the Aqua Butterfly, if so, why the heck doesn't it have 2 120's in it and an 80 in the fan holder over the vga card???

http://www.xcase.co.uk/pictures/1486/8/563098-1.jpg

Jeantech Aqua that Novatech used to sell (http://jeantech.com/v1aqua.htm)

This case also has room for an extra 80 blowing from the motherboard panel, into the hdd caddy, at the front, plus fittings for a 3rd 80 blowing into the cpu zone, from the plexi side window.

that isnt my case mines the v3 version
http://jeantech.com/butterflyv3.htm

it has space for
80mm rear (noctua fitted)
80mm front (hard drive cooling ) (noctua fitted)

is has one 80mm on a bar for graphics cooling but i had to take off the bar cos it got in the way
now ive lost it lol

and has another 80mm fan slot on the right side of the case near cd drives
(if i wanted to add a fan in that i would have to take apart mysetup cos when you drop the right side the motherboard tray drops too)

i loved this case when i first got it but now it just annoys me.

Yea, i see your quandry, the only other place you could put one is in the space on the side panel, which would blow into the cpu location area.

Its a more astheticaly pleasing case than the one i have (which is the one i thought you were on about at first), but lacks the decent cooling option (well, quiter cooling option i guess)

to be honest at the time it was my only option

i had £1400 in DSG vouchers to spend an this was the only case that was any good in pc world

i could mod the case but i think i would be better just selling it on as is.
the hiper case i have still in it's box has much better cooling and hasnt really cost me anything at all.

Yea, tough one, try and sell it on, and go for say a 900 for max airflow, or as you say , try and mod the case, which isnt going to be that easy. Mainly because all you can do is make extra holes for fitting a 120mm in the front, i doubt you could get on in the rear, and cut out the existing *cullander grill* section from the front and rear to allow more airflow and cut down on whistle from teh air flowing through, which will also mean easier access for dust in the front while making it much quieter.

lmao

i know i shouldnt utter the words dsg or pc world lol

funnest pc build ever to build a rig from pcworld i had to travel to 5 pcworlds to get all the parts
needed for a build  but i had to spend the vouchers on something (still had loads left after the build)

i think they like me DSG few months back my fridge packed in called currys out
as it had coverplan few weeks later they sent me vouchers for £540
total fridge cost was £270
new fridge was the same fridge with a different door (with a display on) cost £300 with a 4 year coverplan an delivery
and pickup of the old one

ended up with £240 in vouchers for myself lol

back on topic
i already have my new case so to late on getting a 900 have a boxed Hiper Osiris here just need some more bits
gf is ordering me a new psu tomorrow (be quiet dark power pro 640watt) to go in it then im going to change them stock
120 fans and get a new cpu cooler then am all set to move case :D

I'm not currently aware of what DSG stands for so "no blood, no foul"

I remember the post about the Osiris. Lets hope it makes for a better cooled pc bud.

They own Pixmania?? DAMMIT!!

I try and avoid giving money to the big company chains, but I guess I should have read the small print.
