I have a SONY DVD RW DW G521A optical drive in my HP Pavillion dv2124tu Laptop. Its Firmware version is FPS3 dated 2006-04-28.
My problem is that the drive burns DVDs successfully but can not read it. On accessing the properties it shows the data to be '0' bytes. But the same DVD is read successfully by other DVD drives.
I tried changing make of the DVDs and the Burner Softwares but the problem persists.I tried to contact SONY online for the firmware support but was told that since its a OEM it has to do with HP and HP site did not help. I run windows XP SP3.
Also though its write speed is 24X (as per nero info tool), it always burns at 2.5X whatever the speed written on DVDs!
Plz Help!

This isn't a Hewlett Packard forum, you know, it's for Novatech products...

It's an oldish IDE 8X drive you have, I reckon. Probably on the way out. Maybe dirty lens.

Try DVD-R media. They are higher contrast ratio, so might work better. Worst comes to the worst, you'll just have to burn CD-R disks. Nothing lasts forever.
