where will it end???

Will soon start seeing more dual psu cases, and maybe even quad psu cases soon if it continues like this...

bah
i thought changing the manufacturing processes was going to conserve energy, but as always, the lower the power needs to be, the higher the clocks go, so the higher the power goes.

Why cant they just put small solar panels on the gpu and power some of it from there

if only

and danc, you may want to correct the spelling on the title of this page, did you throw your keyboard at a cuboard n all :D

meh graphics cards. I just buy the one that is 100quid :p
They are going way too over the top lately.
They are miles behind cpu's on power consumption especially since they are on 65 micron now :o

I think you will find its probably be only the first generation of those cards that need that kind of PSU wattage.

NVIDIA and ATI both know they have let power consumption get a bit out of hand and they are both set to working on reducing this in the future.

A prime exmaple of this is look at the first generation Dual Card Design. The 7900GX2 required a PCI-E power connector for each card. However the new 7950GX2 only needs one PCI-E power connector for both cards.

I think with time they will get it better but i don't doubt for a second the first cards out are going to be power hungry monsters needing very expense PSU's to run them.

Yeah you're right.

It's only the ridiculously overpriced models that you need to sell your arms and legs to buy that will have that high power consumption :p
But still, with CPU's gettting down in the 25w range (mobile ones) they have quite a lot of work to do.

Its not the first time I've seen something like this. Back when SLI was first being badgered about, I read an article about a psu that had a second psu that sat in the 5.25" drive bay in order to provide power solely for the VGA cards in uber top end machines.

Just wish i could find the link for it now

Check out thermaltake. I have seen this kind of PSU cause they make one.
