High end 5.1 or 7.1 speakers

As the title suggests I am looking for some high end speakers, 7.1 is preferred, but if sound quality will be better with 5.1, then I would rather go with that.

I have up to around £250 to spend, but nothing set in stone. I am after something to last me a good long while, so price is a secodnary consideration.
