I've just bought my first MP3 player. A Lavod LFA-301 512K.

I've got two problems. Firsty, I put some music from my CD's on to the player. When I use the player I can only access a certain track by cycling through all the tracks one by one. They are in folders, by artist and album on the player. The display shows the track being played as say 13/8 for track 8 of 13 but I cannot skip to the next album.

Second problem. When I have Windows Media Player open at the same time as I plug in the MP3 player the system hangs for ages. The Sync tool in WMP does not seem to recognise the player, it does recognise my USB stick however!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like a standard menu function on the smaller MP3 players. Sadly you'll have to stick it out I'm afraid.

That second issue is a bit perplexing. Could you try pluggin the unit in and then turning on the Windows Media Player? and come back with the results.

The Sync function possibly sees the USB stick as to small to sync with. I believe this is for the larger "mini Har Drive" style MP3 players. I will investigate this further for you though.

The problem with small size *stick* type MP3 players, is that they don't have the fuller menu functions of larger more expensive models.

The easiest way round it, is to have the music files copied across to your pc, say if your using winmedia 10. Then when you want to load music up, you just go into the folder that had what you want and load it onto the player. Do Not Copy The Root Folder of the album, just the actual music files.

Its the only way your going to do it really.

I have a Q-be 1GB mp3 player, less than 1" on all sides  (gimic, very cool looking, but can only be charged from the USB-3mm jack that it comes with, so if you loose it or wreck it, your stuffed) and because of the small size, it suffers the same problem as you.
