View Full Version : my new watercooling
i brought the thermaltake bigwater SE on the fact that it suports amd k7 and k8 but once i start to try to install, it wont fit!!!
i am using a am2 skt motherboard, which after much research i have found that it is still a k8, so can somone tell me whats going on and if i need to buy a new waterblock, i am not a happy bunny cos i want to get on and start building my new beast

AM2 is a modified K8, a K8L.(or something similar)
check if your motherboard is on here
http://www.swiftnets.com/products/AM2-C ... Y-LIST.asp (http://www.swiftnets.com/products/AM2-COMPATIBILITY-LIST.asp)
and if it is then look at this block
http://www.swiftnets.com/
On the left
liquid cooling products>cpu waterblocks>Apogee
i might try going thermoelectric
yea i got the m2n32 sli wireless deluxe, and it says its compatible, but it dosnt fit

if it says that it fits then get it
or you could stay with stock cooling a little bit longer and wait for more AM2 cpu blocks to come out.
But i would get it, and if it didnt fit then you can claim your money back because it would be faulse advertising
no i already have it and the motherboard and the holes on the mobo are like 1 centermeter to far apart than the conector on the waterblock

then you might want to set up camp and wait until more AM2 blocks come out, because at the moment there arent that many tbh
OMG thats amoying it was sold as k8, i think im just gonna create a wooden adaptor, or somthing its only about 1 centremeter out, but novatech has really gotta change that specification, its false advertising. oh well i know have to customise my water!!!
:x :? :(

hold your horses
AMD have called it AM2/K8L, not K8.
If you had don the research then this wouldnt of occured.
but i have come to help
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ZAL-9500AM (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?ZAL-9500AM)
cool and quiet, and doesnt look too bad, or cost too much until you get yourself a proper AM2 waterblock
OMG that is so anoying im just gonna build a adaptor for it and stay with watercooling

Tax, how come you told me I had to 'hotwire' my PSU.. otherwise it wouldn't turn on.. or could cause damage?

It will turn on without hotwiring it!!
If there was a leak that went onto the motherboard, or that 7900gtx you have, then it would of destroyed it as aposed to when there is no power running through the board (in which case u just dry it)
If the cooling fluid wasnt added quick enough then the cpu could of fried and that would be £200 gone because u thought that you wouldnt do what the manufacturer advises you to do, and because youput watercooling into your machine, and the cpu melted, you wouldnt get any money back, becauseyou would have voided your warranty
Ihope that has cleared things up :D
yea i went for the 7800gt as a temporary as im limited on funds, i might save a bit and go for a 7900gtx, or two, :D
but heres the up to date specs
*MODIFIED* bigwater SE (lol read the rest of the topic)
asus m2n32 sli deluxe wifi (with bells on)
skt am2 4200 x2 (gonna oc it once i got cooling sorted)
7800gt
300gb maxtor 26mb cache
hiper 580 watt the big red one
UBER HUGE armor case,
and of course the boring stuff like DVD writer floppy and so on
5.1 surround sound
19" hyundi monitor (n91s)
G15 keyboard (the screen rocks been using it on my laptop)
and heres somthing to think about when i was doing some research, the amount of pcs that u can buy that dont have floppy drives, admitidly there old but i have started to cary around a spare in my toolkit because none of my friends have them, and of course most of their backups and stuff r on 3.5 inchers, why have so many companies done this!! just one of my many anoyances of how the pc market is going.
i will try to update as soon as i have created (or failed to create) the adaptor and post some details on how,
and yes i am a he, (last time i checked)

Didnt want to affend 8)
yea, thing is im trying to get a working pc up and running in time for a little lan me and some friends r gonna have, admitidly its gonna be fun with the wattage of my kit, we r holding it in a caravan, its gonna be tight, 2 or 3 desktops and 2 laptops, its also gonna get pretty hot in their thats why i was planning for the watercooling, but alas, also i got screwed over with my cpu as well, (my luck is no good at the mo) aparantly they stopped getting the skt am2 x2 4000 so i went for he 4200 and they gave me the 939 version!!!!!!! ARGH its not funny anymore

So, do you have the 7800GT or the 9800Gt thats in your sig?
i have a solution that dosnt include putting a plank of wood in my case, danger den does a few waterblocks for am2 heres the site http://www.coolercases.co.uk/water_bloc ... en_cpu.htm (http://www.coolercases.co.uk/water_blocks_dangerden_cpu.htm)

so let me get this straight,
you have a 939 skt X2 4200
and an AM2 mobo
that doesnt seem to make sense
and a LAN in a caravan, why not just have it in your house??
ok no, i ordered a am2 skt x2 4200 but they gave me a 939 version so im getting it changed! should be goning down to pick it up tomorow, but i now have to find a adaptor for a 1/4" tube to a 3/8" waterblock, will it ever end? it would of just been easier to stay 939 i know so please no one say it :(
yea cant do LAN in house, cos they wont let us, they think we are gonna trash the place, even though were bringinging expensive PCs, and were now being charged for electricity, 5 pound a pop.
