I have noticed over the last week that the front fan on my Thermaltake Soprano has been 'giving it some'. I assumed it was the hot weather as it is located in a south facing room which does get hot regardless of the outside temp.
Having a look last night the inside of the front dust cover and the filter was totally blocked. There must have been a good quarter inch of dust on the filter.
Must clean that out more often :)

Um as a rule, i *valet* all the pc's i come in contact with, at least once every 6 months.
This includes:
Remove HSF, blow through with Compressed air (airbrush and cylinder from fratton model shop) before cleaning cp and re-fitting.
Clean and Re-paste any removable heatsinks (vga/northbridge)
Strip front panel to hoover out all dust.
Take side panels off (where possible) to remove dust.
Clean (brush and hoover) all case fans.
Yea, its a labour of love, but for what, mine, me mums, me niece/nephews and their mums machine, its worth it to give it a clean up. Thats normally when they ask whats going wrong etc.
Oh, and her mums too, which incidentally, they just knackered again and thank god its too far t ogo and have to work on it

That 'was' a load of dust but the tower is on a wooden 'shelf' only about 4 inches off the carpeted floor.
Plus we have warm air heating which is far more dusty than conventional radiators.
And reason No 3 is that it is in the main room with more dust creating traffic.
It's going to get checked every month now - not difficult as I keep the second stage door unlocked anyway.

I get a can of compressed air and spray, then get a old toothbrush to scoop out the dust.
My old Dell desktop has some much dust it will overheat! And the heatsink you can't take off.

you should see some of the computers i had to work on at my last job about 8 years ago, some of them made me feel sick.
at my old job they used to get a lot of second hand computers in from banks, schools and other big companies. some of the computers were about 5 or 6 years old (a lot of 286 and 386 systems) and had never been opened. when i opened them they were about 3 quarters full of dust :?.
