Hi Folks.

I've decided to sell my ACER 22" TFT LCD PC Monitor, "well debating on it if i can get the price i'm asking for it" and i've decided i want to start using my 42" 1080p LCD TV rather than my PC Monitor.

My question is how do i go about setting up my PC for use with my LCD TV? I have a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512MB OC2 PCI-Express Graphics Card primed and ready!

Gee.

You can connect it through a VGA cable, although you will only get a 1360x720 resolution that way. If you're planning to use HDMI, you will not get any sound through there, you have to plug in a seperate connector and I don't know how to do it to get the two to work together. However, your card will struggle at anything above 1360x720. 1920x1080 is more for the high end cards such as a HD4870, 260GTX etc.

Hi There.

Where can i get such adaptors? I've got the one required from the soundcard to the TV as this supports all connections i need for the PC to connect to just need the best possible way.

At the moment i've had games running on my 22" at 1680x1050 without problems but i rearly play games this is why i have an Xbox 360 for all my gaming needs.

if your video card has dvi and the tv has hdmi in you could use this cable.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... l?CAB-HDDV (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?CAB-HDDV)

if the video card and tv both have dvi you could use this one.

http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ml?CAB-DVI (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?CAB-DVI)

all you need to do is connect the cables and it should work, you can go into windows display properties and set the screen resolution to 1920 x 1080. personally i wouldn't recommend using just the tv with your pc, it sounds great having a massive screen and it will be good for watching videos and games however for things like browsing the internet a 42" screen will be to big and after a while i think you will miss the 22" monitor.

Hi There.

Thanks for the update apologies for the late reply.

I can see where your coming from on that though to be honest i've been thinking of this for a while and i'm still going to go ahead with it. The PC is only used for general multimedia, videos, music, photos and the odd game now and again but i've got an Xbox 360 for all that for nowadays.

I'll purchase the DVI-HDMI Adapter along side a decent wireless card for general internet browsing and i'm looking forward to the extra space i'll be creating by doing so.

Thanks for the help fellas.

Nice, yeah it'll clear up some space indeed.

My parents are out of the country for the weekend and I have moved downstairs with my PC and hooked it up to our Sony Bravia 40" .. Wow I wish I had one of these in my room, the gaming sensation is.. amazing to be honest :)

TVs are the way forward for computer gaming! LOL

Hi There.

I've got to agree with you that HDTV's are starting to come into there own now.

I've just noticed that the graphics card has a SPDIF socket but i don't have a cable to attach this to the motherboard to pass the sound through the DVI-HDMI adapter, what other way could i get sound, i know obviously via a connection from the sound card i do have a RCA cable available but how do i go about getting sound from the HD TV?

I have an LG 42" 5010 Rose/Red Colour it has a lot of outputs and inputs but ive got no idea on how the sound would work if not from the HDMI source.

Thanks.

most tv's with dvi and or hdmi inputs will also have an audio in for the dvi or one of the hdmi ports so you can connect the cable from the sound card to that.

You're nearly there, actually - fortunately you've got one of the few graphics cards that this can be done with.

You will need an SPDIF-SPDIF connecting cable (m/b sound - 9600), and the DVI-HDMI adapter mentioned earlier. That cable should have been included with your card and if you can't find it, it might be Ebay time as I doubt anyone sells it separately but you may be pleasantly surprised !

You could always get a 3.5mm-to-RCA audio cable - available pretty much anywhere, and run it as a separate cable up to your TV.

The easiest way, of course, is just to connect the PC to a normal set of PC speakers / surround sound system :D

Hi Fellas.

Thanks so much for the information, i've just found a kit on sale now but with another competitor it's by "XFX", the kit includes a 5m HDMI Cable, DVI-HDMI Adapter and the SPDIF Cable connection for use with Graphics Cards it's currently £11 quid so i'm going order that and get it all via the HDMI cable rather than have cables everywhere.

This means now the only cables that will come from my PC are the Power and the HDMI Cable as my Gamepad, Keyboard and Mouse are all wireless via a dongle quality times!

Thanks fellas.
