Hi,
I have recently been given an old LG Flatron 577LM by my friend, however he forgot to give my the power pack.
It says it needs 24v power, but I can only find a 12v power supply in my house.
When I plug in the 12v, the screen works but it is quite dark, and it gets darker towards the left.
I was wondering, is this because the screen is broken, or is it because its not getting full 24v power, in which case I will go out and buy a 24v power pack.
Thanks

According to the manual it needs 12V @ 3A or looking at it another way, 36W of power:

Is your power supply up to it?

24V is odd, but if it says that on the monitor near the power input then that's the figure to trust. (Hopefully moulded into the plastic and not just a sticker ??!!)
Your screen is dark because a 12V supply will not be powering the backlight properly. Any 24V supply with a current output over 1.8A will be fine as the monitor will only draw the current it needs. Don't over-spec the voltage, though as you will kill the monitor and possibly start a small fire !

Thanks,
Do you know where I can buy the correct power supply from?

Not a clue, I'm afraid. You'll need to Google a supplier of PSUs for LCD monitors/TVs and start ringing around. I have no idea what pin configuration or socket size that monitor of yours uses.
It might be a bit time-consuming, unfortunately, but I'm sure you'll find one.
Maplin might be a good place to start.....

ok,
If I could find one of those multi volt, multi head, adaptors, would that work?
Thanks

Sure, as long as it is 24V (exactly !) and a minimum of 1.8A output.

Just one last check... make 100% sure it really does need 24V @ 1.8A.
If, for whatever reason, System7's manual link is correct and you hook up 24V to your monitor, it will be game over. It may well be that several versions were made - a 12V panel and a 24V panel.
Having advised on this, I want you to triple-check and be absolutely clear in your mind that it *is* 24V you need !
Cheers.

Yes make sure that it really does need 24v. I must say i have not seen one before that does.

yeah, its strange that, I have never seen that either, also on the speakers that came with it It says 24v on then as well,
so I plugged the same 12v powersupply into them and there was a strange farting noise, but they worked?

If your like me, you love to get old kit going. but unless you have virtually free 24V power supply, maybe it's time to consider if it is worth the cash. I think one of these monitors sold on ebay for £10, so maybe you may not wish to spend much more to find out if it even works.
In my view, as an older monitor, it could easily take 24 volts, but make sure the polarity is correct. unless you already checked, you have a 50:50 chance of blowing it up. on the other hand, its not the end of the world?
That said, if you like old games, which only run in 1024 x 768 then a 15 inch is essential to get a decent native resolution display. (or a crt, i guess.)
mmm, first post, note to self, dont ramble.

Well, I checked the noname 17" flat screen at work today, and it was 12V 4.2A transformer supply. I think 12V is just more likely. It's what cars offer. :|

That is the funniest random thing I've ever seen you type Steve !
I'd like to add... all airliners use 28V. Just in case there is a correlation.
(Sorry, couldn't resist it, but I do think you're probably right !)
