Firstly, excuse my lack of technical knowledge

Ok, i've bought an ATI Radeon HD 4870 1gb graphics card and i'm stuck. My psu doesn't have enough 4 pin slots for the two 6 pin male internal power to 4 pin ATX 12v male cable to connect to the two 6 pin slots on the 4870. I only have three 4 pin slots so i'm wondering whether or not I need a new psu with more 4 pin slots. Do I need a new psu? (If this makes no or very little sense i'll try and rephrase it. It doesn't make much sense to me either)

I've no idea what power supply you have to go with that lovely 1 GB HD 4870 graphics card.

But this splendid £73 Corsair TX650W will have it singing and dancing:

Go on. Treat yourself! :P

Well then, even more money to spend :P
And my current psu is a rubbish 300w one.

which means if you had been able to connect it, it likely wouldnt have started again (or if it had, you wouldnt have had any display).

a 300w would not be able to supply a 4870 with its power requirements.

That's what I had thought. Time to order a new psu now :)

Rubbish, Jonny. £10 extra spent on a lovely Corsair is a better thing. Smaller case, quiet, better cooled, better built. A power supply, like a puppy, isn't just for Christmas.
