Sorry i have no idea..

 Tax, i now know what you mean by the middle chipset on the a8n32-sli mobo getting HOT!! I put my finger on it just, and its so hot i had to take my finger off !!!

Obv. i checked my temps and they where pretty high:

Room temp V. HOT: 31C
CPU: 51/52C
MOBO: 51/52C
GPU: 52/53C

^ system idle ^

I took the side panel off and put a massive deskfan next to the case and switched it on... thankfully it lowered both CPU and Mobo to 46c & 45c.

I know the room is pretty warm, but i cant understand how the system still gets that hot! i have x6 120mm fans x1 92mm fan + watercooled cpu @ 2.60ghz.

Anyone got any ideas on how i could lower the temps even more!?

Cheers,

PS TAX, MIGHT AS WELL MOVE BACK TO THE ORIGINAL 'SYSTEM SPECS', AS THOSE RUDE POST'S HAVE GONE :D - yay

NIce technical term there Beere

That would be your Northbridge.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northbridge_(computing)
The one towards the bottom* of the board being the Southbridge.

you can cool them even more by watercooling the whole system

remember you have to have a good airflow, so check that all fans are facing in one direction, either front to back, or back to front.

to cool the heat npipe down even more, why dont you use that little fan asus supplied with that motherboard, should lower the temps by a couple of degrees

You looking for perspex tax?

I got a bit floating around (clear) but its in storage, or left behind at old house, cant remember. But I can probably point you in a few directions for modding bits and pieces.

lol yee i have thought about watercooling the lot, but then was thinking about it in the future, if any problems occure, having to get a new mobo etc. - a lot of hassle :)

Yee all fans are the correct way :) . . . This fan that came with the mobo :? For some reason i worked it out that buying a 'bundle' from Novatech was slightly cheaper than buying the parts, so i went ahead and bought the bundle. But the little fan you mentioned didnt come with the package!?!

Is the fan for the North/South Bridge chipset? - If so, i will ask Novatech to send me the fan that i should of had with my package ! lol

Yeessss very technical Chewie, jus rip off the side panel and bung a massive desk fan next to it, turn it on, and wack it up fulll pelt! :P 8) - Lowered the temps in no time

lol

Nox-what shop did you go to get the perspex,is it very easy to cut etc.

big beere-u know the little coil of the heat pipe to the left of the mobo, that is where the fan clips on, i dont use mine cos it is noisy, but i might now, seeing that i have to have my fans on full tilt to keep my ssytem cool in this heat. If you want one, and u cant get one from novatech then give me a shout and i can sell u mine (seeing that i dont use it)

Beere

Northbridge, as its doing the most work (RAM and VGA routing of data)

You can put a heatsink on the southbridge, but unless your ocing the whole system, it wont produce a noticable difference.

Tax, perspex can be difficult if your using the wrong blade in the jigsaw or have it at the wrong speed.

Yee i have only OC'd the CPU to 2.75ghz, but as its been quite hot these few days, and ive been getting high temps, i lowered it to 2.60ghz.

I defo. want that little fan that goes onto the chipset. So does the fan clip on the little coily bit, or can it go on either the north or southbridge?

Cheers all,

Ok, looking at the setup of the A8N32-Sli deluxe, the heatsink covers the Southbridge and the northbridge with the use of a heat pipe to get it to the actual convector part of the assembly, where the heat is bled off.

http://www.hardinfo.dk/art/site/pic/motherboard/socket939/asus_a8n32_sli_deluxe/asus_a8n32_sli_deluxe_board_overview_large.jpg

Hmm, i cannot see how you can actively cool that heat sink beyond having a 120mm case fan in the side of you case blowing air across it.

Depending on the fan you have on your CPU, theres probably not going to be much space to place a 40-60mm fan anywhere near by, which is the only one that will be slim enough to fit in the space available.

Hmm speaking of fans, i just noticed my top fan had died completely (only cause i moved me modem which i was using its output to cool it with) adn the side one is on its way out. Crud, need to buy 2 new 80's with LEDs to replace em.

Anyway back on topic.

Can you post a pic of the mobo with all fitted please Beere, as i'm curious as to how it looks when its all fitted .

the little fan GOES on the coil bit, NO WHERE else!!
it clips on

I am currently watercooled, so there's no CPU fan :P

Below are 2 pics of the A8N32-SLI Set up:

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-1/1129813/DSC00765small.JPG

But after just reading Tax's post, that would mean i am stuck, because my rear 120mm fan + rad takes up a lot of room, and it would be impossive to fit that fan on the coil bit!

Pic show below:

lol, that is a bit tight in there, you could just mount the old cpu fan with zip ties and point it towards the heat pipe

Nox-what shop did you go to get the perspex,is it very easy to cut etc.

The wife got it from school. Shes a teacher before you say anything!!! Cutting it is... well, its not difficult, but you will snap a few pieces if you do any intricate work, and you need a really fine blade on whatever tool you use. I would also say do it in a well ventilated area, 'cutting' is a fairly loose term, I would say melting is more accurate judging by the smell it makes :)

You can get perspex from B&Q...

i went into b&q and got lost, plus my mate was with me and he got bored, so i abandoned my mission.
Maybe i will have a proper ponder round there in the near future, after i get paid :o

i looked and i saw that dell have change the case on their gaming machine
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/produ ... l=en&s=dhs (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsdt_700?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs)
im not too impressed though, i reakon that the case is cheap to the touch, and is purely made from plastic

people im thinking of getting a dual core skt 939 opteron while i can, because of their higher L2 cache and lower heat disipation, which would allow for higher clocks at lower temperatures,
im thinking of
OPTERON 170 2.0GHZ SKT 939 DUAL CORE 2MB CACHE

1).Would this go higher than my X2 3800 manchester
2).Would there be any noticable performance differences between the opty and the X2 at similar speeds
3). how high can these opteron 170's go
4). would you think it would be worth the upgrade
ps:opterons also use less power :D

because ive just read a review of an opteron overclocked to 2.75 and it beats an fx60 cpu.
so i just want a second opinion

Nox

1).Would this go higher than my X2 3800 manchester - probably
2).Would there be any noticable performance differences between the opty and the X2 at similar speeds - unlikely
3). how high can these opteron 170's go - varies, which stepping are you talking about?
4). would you think it would be worth the upgrade - not really

And AMD will continue making s939 chips for a long while yet, just get an fx-60/62 in 6 months time instead. Well, it may take a year before their prices are sensible, so maybe a year :D

true true, i might just get some more RAM instead, even though i saw the opty 170 going for £120
Some decent RAM will probably surfice
