The trouble with Dreamscapes and the Stardock utility is that it uses resource the whole time its running. Whilst that obviously isnt huge, what it does mean is that your gpu will get up to a reasonable temp the whole time, you're just surfing the web etc. It can and does at times also interfere with gaming, albeit infrequently.

For example Crysis tends to launch in windowed mode instead of maximised due to dreams running. My GTX280 will happily sit for hours around 50C under a static wallpaper, but with a dream running, it'll quite quickly go up to 60C+.

Tis a shame becuase I used to love some of the Dreams I had for it. But for me I cant allow something to cause any conflicts whatsoever or burn resource permanately.

Yup, fair comment. You can, of course, add a 'turn off the Stardock apps' button, but apart from the fact you have far better gfx than myself, we have similar systems; haven't had any problems or slow-downs with it, GPU heating or otherwise, but I guess it's a very individual thing.

However, can't disagree with your basic post which is running Stardock apps. uses resources. Undeniable.

How do you rotate background every hour?

With Vista, you can get a gagdet to do this and then hide the sidebar if required. "Wallpaper changer" This is how I do it. I have about 50 landscapes 1920*1200 saved in a folder which I add to daily, usually. Does not fade as nicely as W7 but still looks good and adds a little extra to the desktop.

Shortcuts shouldn't make any difference at all on today's hardware or tbh even yesterdays. Actual folders themselves or files, of course should never be left on the desktop.
