Hey all, I would like to purchase a drive that basically "eats the CD" like on Mac's or the Nintendo Wii. I don't know the specific term to search for to find one so was wondering if anyone knew where I could find or purchase one. I think the system is awesome.
Thanks,
Mouse

The term your looking for is a "slot loading" DVD Drive... not entirely sure we sell any at the moment. But if any of the sales guys see this post they may say different

I haven't seen a full-bay size slot-loading DVD... ermm.. ever. I'm sure they exist, but as to getting one....
They are generally laptop-sized devices so will need an adaptor to fit into a regular bay. Apart from the ever-so-slight cool-factor, I can't see the advantage. If a disk gets jammed, they're a pain in the *** to get out and you'll be paying for a drive *and* a bay adaptor.
If you insist though, have a look here:

Yeah full size slot loaders exist. I use to have some few years back from Pioneer. However don't know if anyone makes them now. they do notebook ones, but not seen a PC one for a while.

Hi Mouse,
I did a bit of hunting for you and your best bet is probably the Albert & Victoria museum ! Last known reference I could find was that production of the full-size Pioneer & Toshiba slot-loaders ceased around 2005/2006. Last few were probably sold no later than 2007.
Had a look on Ebay and there was... one... in glorious white.
The reviews are glowing but there must be a reason they stopped making them... and I'm guessing it's because people stopped buying them.

Thanks for this post...made me chuckle on a Monday evening!
Eaters.... :D
In the nicest possible way that's funny!!
Haha yeah Slot loading drives are great :D I saw one in a pc that was being chucked away at work and I quickly nabbed it. Its only a CD-ROM though so i just use it to play CD's. Im easily amused, what can i say?

That would be cool, instead of having to put the disk in and press a button/push the tray

I searched for one a couple of years ago when I wanted to use the Hoojum chassis, in the end, gave up and went with mATX chassis.
I think I actually have one in my PC at home that I've had for years, and used in several rebuilds. I know my CD-R and BD-players aren't, but I have a sneaking suspicion, the Sony DVD-R I have is. Think I even picked up in a bargain bin or something similar in a Dixons years ago.

i would avoid this type of drive at all costs regardless of your motivation the motors brake and will literally eat your CD (<0<I< I>I<I<).. they are frustrating and annoying and every single thing that has ever used that i have encounted DOES this eventually including my wii recently in which i got fed up trying to get it out and i cba to play the same game over and over i smashed it to bits. wii= @55 £v<%
