Hi all

I have just bought the Benq de350 that is on offer at the moment, it seemed like a right bargain with the 250 gb HDD and was hoping to use it as a PVR and have it linked in with my NTL box.

I have set the box up so that it sees the signal from my NTL box but my problem is that I currently cant get any sort of EPG (electronic programme guide) from the Benq and it dosent link directly to the NTL box so the only way I can currently record from NTL is to set both on timers which sucks and seems more backwards than a VCR with video+!!

Im just wondering if anyone has any info on this or has managed to do it? I know that there are certain programs that can be used on the PC to record tv programmes such as MythTV and I was wondering if that software could be used on this HDD recorder?

I would appreciate any thoughts, comments or suggestions anyone may have, it would be nice to get this all set up.

Cheers

Paul

Its been a few days and no-one has posted any other info on this so I would sugest you check out the BenQ website and/or call our tech support and see if they can help!

Hey thanks for the reply.

I have checked the Benq website but had no joy, there is suprisingly little on the net about this particular model but I assume that's just because its still so new.

Im currently looking around on the net to see if anyone has sucessfully put something like Tivo or MythTV on to a DVDHDD recorder and I will keep this post updated if I do.

I will also contact your support guys and see if they have any ideas, thanks.

Just out of curiosity, what sort of setup do any of you guys have on this or other DVDHDD recorders? I thought that it would be a common thing to go through an NTL or SKY box but obviously not. Do most people still just use terrestrial TV or does it work well with a freeview box?

Again, any updates or info anyone can share would be very much appreciated.

All the best

Paul

I have sony HDD recorder which is connected to my NTL box via SCART Cable.

As far as i know my sony drive does not have an EPG. I can set mine to record via video plus code or manual timings. However it cannot control my NTL box because it is a seperate unit not designed to be controlled by my HDD recorder. HDD recorders do not decode the channels so its not like the HDD can just adjust the channel it is recording unless you had one with in built freeview tuner but then it could only record freeview stuff not Ntl or Sky Stuff. It can only record what is being fed to it via a cable as another unit is controlling the channel that is being viewed, i.e your NTL Box.

So i have to set my NTL box on to the channel i want to record or set the NTL box to go to the channel at the right time. I don't know of any other way as the HDD has no direct control over the NTL digi box
