Hi,
A long thread so here go's
I went to restore my laptops OS with the recovery disc I made, only to find out that the image was corupt and could not be used.
During this install the corrupt disc some how affected the recovery partition,I can no longer install the OS which came with the laptop.
Not a big deal,I have the license,so I will use the disc supplied with my main desktop.Desktop and laptop both have XP Media edition.
Tried to install XP,but it wont because there are no SATA drivers installed.Tried to install my copy of VISTA,a message states that there is a file missing ?.
Downloaded the SATA drivers from COMPAQ ,and used nlite to incorporate the drivers into XP,the new version of XP with drivers filed to boot.Tried 3 times.
I know you can install the SATA drivers from an external FDD,but I would sooner waste money on at present.NOVATECH are selling one for £15,maybe after I have tried everything else.
I installed the laptop HDD into a spare PC ,the HDD was recognized and I started to install VISTA,the same error message appeared again.I know the disc is ok because I have installed it before.
I am currently installing XP on the laptop HDD which is still fitted in the dektop.I'm hoping to install XP on the laptop HDD by using the desktop.I hoping after VISTA in installed on the laptop HDD to connect it back to the laptop then activate VISTA.If this dose not work,I will buy the FDD and install the SATA drivers.
Finally I get to my questions, sorry.
Have any of the forum members installed XP by using an external FDD
Why can you install XP on a SATA desktop with out using the drivers, but not on a laptop
Because the VISTA install failed, could there be something wrong with the HDD
I hope you didn't mind reading this long thread, and I look forward to your replies
Many thanks
