Have you used the correct cable?
Are the drives in the same order they were in before, eg.master and slave config?
Are the jumper settings on the back the drives correct for their position on the ide cable?

the obligatory *have you checked all the plugs are snuggly fitted in place* springs to mind.

Do you get any lights or activity whenthe pc is on?

Do they show up in the BIOS?

Right, i could never get power to them - now i have but they dont show up on the pc. Do i connect them to the IDE slot?

Thanks,

Connect the power supply to them
Connect drives to motherboard using IDE cable
Check jumper setting on the back of the drives

try one drive, see if that works, then power down, try the next drive, then try both drives together

Done 1 and 2,

The one drive that is connected does nothing and drive 2 which has power only opens up.

How do i check the Jumper Settings?

it is on the back of the drive
there will be 6 small pins, and 2 of them will be covered up with a bit of plastic, move the plastic bit, to either master or slave, one must be master, and one must be slave

ggrrrrr
so one of the drives works??
check on the manufacturers website to see if the problem is wide spread, and get it RMA'd if they dont have a solution :D

No - None of them work lol

If i only have the power connected they open fine, but as soon as i connect the ide cable they dont do anything - dont even open :/

i wouldnt really laugh if any of my optical drives didnt work,
anyway

i would, position one above the the other
make the top one master (using jumpers at back)
and make the bottom one slave (using jumpers at back)
and connect the IDE cable so the one at the top is at the end of the cable

have you tried another IDE cabel???

Bez

if you have a self build machine you will have to pay for any diagnostic checks.

have you tried the CD drives connected one at a time?

Bez

Yea only one of them is connected atm - how much is a diagnostic check/repair?

A diagnostic test, what does this cover.. does some one check all the hardware bit by bit....

Cheers

very messy inside that case,
what are we surposed to be lookin at there btw,
take the drives out and put one ontop of another (outside the case) and take a picture of the back of them, that would be more relevant than that picture tbh
