I have a MSI K8N ne0 v2.0 Motherboard with ddr400 RAM and a Blue orb cooler. I built it with an enermax PSU but the combination was dead. Tried with the PSU supplied with the case and alll was well. Tried to install suse Linux 10.1 and it would crash at varying points of install, even on final reboot (It is unusual for Linux systems to Lock up unless hardware troublesome). I have done this five times now.

Initially thought it was an old hard drive that might have bad sectors so returned PSU to Novatech and bought Seagate barrucuda sata drive and a Taxan PSU (These are the best PSUs I have ever seen). Connect everything up and all I get is a brief illumination of the cooler's led and then dead. Swapped PSUs - no change. Both PSUs work in other machines. Finally had M/B out on deck with nothing but ATX power and 4 pin CPU power connector. Again, brief illumination of LED. No change even with no graphics/memory, and checked usb ports for shorting.

Anything else I can try or is the Motherboard dead? I am presuming a Motherboard intermittent fault affecting my install that has now become permanent.

If the psu works in other systems apart from the new one, then it may be the motherboard
Check that there are no scratchs on the motherboard
See if you can get a replacement from the supplier
Did you wear a static strap when installing

The motherboard looks pristine. I have never used a static strap being somewhat suspicious of their effectiveness, and usually I earth myself periodically to the case. I have never had a problem before in ten years of building PCs. However it does look as if it is the motherboard. I am wondering if it has had a dirty component that has finally failed. I shall see about a return as it is only 3 weeks old, which means lots of fun in dismantling the rather large cooler.

Thanks for the assistance, I half expected what you were going to say but hoped there might be something else I could try.

it may just of been a rare failure of a couple of electronics on the board, unlucky mate
