Wotcha, folks.
I bought two lots of 1gb ram (prod code RAM-40/1G) and fitted them to my PC. Problem is, each one is only registering as 512mb!
I've tried them together, on their own, different slots etc, all to no avail.
My motherboard is a bare bones bundle from NovaT too, it's a KT600 8237 V600DAP if that makes any sense. All the info on my Motherboard says it can take up to 4gb in ram.
Is there a setting I need to change, or is the memory at fault?
Any help much appreciated.
J.

did you buy a 1GB kit, because if you did then that means that there will be 2 X 512mb modules, that make up 1GB in total

If I understand you right, no.
I bought two sticks, each has 1gb labelled on them.
These ones - http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/dirr ... AM-40%2F1G (http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/dirresults.html?s=RAM-40%2F1G)
.....unless i have teh wrong end of teh stick (as it were).

that seems strange, maybe they put the wrong sticker on
maybe novatech will replace with one that is actually 1GB

its very unlikely that the memory has been labeled wrong, we sell a lot of the memory and no other customers have reported the memory as being 512mb instead of 1gb. i would guess the problem is a compatibility issue with your motherboard. if you call tech support on 0870 112 0612 they will issue a returns number so we can have the memory back for test and replacement.

are the 1gb Sticks single sided or double sided.
If they are single sided then your mainboard probably only support double sided DIMM's.
If you RAM is double sided it will have Chips on both side of the PCB if it is single sided they will only be on one Side of the PCB. Please confirm what you have?

They only have chips along one side of the strip.

OK thats quite a simple one then, the RAM is not compatable with your motherboard.
The PC I use for running Vista has the same stock code of Ram in it, the 40/1G, and thats only seen as 512mb as well.
I would recommend returning the memory and swapping it for double sided ram (Corsair or OCZ prefered) as that should run ok.

Thanks for all the help, guys.
David, can you suggest a part number / stock code I should ask for?
My scratchy knowledge goes as far as about 1gb 400mhz pc3200 as to what i'm after.
I don't wanna make the same mistake again.
Many thanks.

i would suggest looking on the manufacturers website aswell as looking at the pictures available on novatech.co.uk
usually the RAM with those big copper heatspreaders are double sided

The OCZs seem cool, but a little expensive. I was planning on keeping my existing 3000XP for another year before upgrading to x64.
Would these do me? I can't see any mention of doublesidedness :?

Thanks to everyone that helped me with this one. Especially David's emailed efforts - cheers, mate.
I now have a returns no. for my old ram, and a new order in place.
Thanks again.
Toby.
