View Full Version : Drives for Raid0.
Right now im using a 750Gb F1 as my sole drive but im looking for a little more speed without spending loads on velociraptors. I will keep my 750 as a back up/storage drive and run two smaller drives for Games/OS etc etc.
Atm im leaning towards 2x 320Gb F1's as there nice and cheap but are there others similar in price that would be faster? 320Gb is wasted so smaller would be fine. Im not keen on the older raptors as i would still like it to be silent and cool.

Couple of Western Digital Caviar Blacks i would recommend , cost a bit more than the rest of the other manufactures , but deffo worth it.

or for slightly more money the 640GB version

Way more space than i need thats all. Will take a look at some reviews on them though.

Space required shouldnt be an issue really price and performance is the real issue. The seagate 500g is a nice drive too 32mb cache etc
Setup is also important if bootup speed /windows essentials is a factor.
Partitioning your 2 drive to have a smaller boot partition helps and setting a suitable stripe size in favour of small files or large files.
e.g. for XP set for 32 GB which means 16GB per drive and your data for the operating system will be stored in the faster outer portion of the Harddrives platters thus maximising throughput.

Surely I would look at going for 2 x 160GB drives and then larger drives for apps and data etc.
