Help with my Fujitsu Siemens Laptop

I didnt know where to post this topic, obviously in the 'laptop' section, but my laptop wasnt from Novatech :)

Anyway..

Feb '06 i paid £849 for this laptop; 5 months on, i have lost my sound :cry:

For a few weeks now i have noticed the sound hasn't been working, i didnt take much notice of it at first because i thought it would be a simple job of unistalling and re-installing the drivers.

After trying to re-install the drives, it still didnt work... So i formatted the system and re-installed them.. STILL no sound !?!

All i can think of is an internal hardware fault.

sys spec:

Fujitsu Siemens Computers
Windows XP Home SP2
Mobile AMD Athlon 64bit 4000+
1.00GB RAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 200
100gb hdd

Realtek AC'97 Audio

About 2 weeks ago, the sound suddenly started to work, but after i restarted it.... it stopped :cry:

Any ideas?

is it when you plug in the audio jack or when using the onboard speakers

is there physical sound controls on the machine itself

ie either a volume control or, pressing FN and a key (with blue/green symbol telling you what volume is)

is the sound enabled in the bios?

I have tried the audio jacks, but there still doesnt seem to be any output?

I have tried the FN keys, but thats making no difference; and i have searched in the BIOS and i cant find anything to do with the audio. The bios is very simple and doesn't have a lot of detail:?

i might have missed something earlier in this thread, but have you got warrenty with the laptop? if its a 100% hardware fault (ie jack) and the softwares fine then warrenty is your best friend my friend :D

big b, sounds like a hardware fault to be honest, which more than likely means the company you purchased it from will need to replace the motherboard, i would take it back to where you purchased it to be honest

yeh, just dont include the words "i think i dropped it" or "the jacks loose" cos your pocket will end up a little lighter. :D

After taking it to the place of purchase and telling them the problem...... they didnt seem interested ! " sorry sir, we dont deal with that " . . . . After me standing there and having a go at the poor young lady, i finally got the laptop sent off and replaced within 6 working days :wink:

Stand your ground, and you will eventually win ! :lol: But i think the fact of me being twice the size of the young man and lady helped me out a bit :P
