All my machine have been AMD, barring the first 2. At the time it was impossible to upgrade em much so went amd, no probs.

(had a p3 800, board was capable of taking the 1.0g chip, but by the time i got round to it they had changed from coppermine to tualatin, and so couldnt upgrade. couldnt find any coppermine 1ghz ones  )

got any benches done??

Done a few 3DMark2005 and so far i get about 500 points more coz of the new CPU ;)

From 6600 ish to about 7050 ish

Man does the new cpu run sooooo much cooler :P

It idles like 28 C in this weather !

100% load it runs no hotter than 49C (Dual Prime 95)

Had a quick blast on some games (SiN and WoW) and they deffo feel faster. Even windows in general feels sooo much more responsive.

More benchies when i can get the time to do them ;)

Been Intel since I can remember apart from our first desktop which was an IBM 120 - Still got that in my components box!

I think Danno started this to make people fight! I don't care, AMD and Intel are so equally matched. If you don't believe me I would challange you to tell, purely from within a game or application, if you are using an AMD or Intel.

No one can.

I have several of each, including 'other'. Still love my RISC!

Actually, I transfered my entire credit card balance to a new capital one card with zero interest, then put everything apart from the cpu onto the card I'd just taken the money off of. Its taken me two months worth of saving to get the new Intel based PC and I used a few bits I already had as well :P

I am now poor. Next month when the new credit card bill arrives I will be even poorer  (but its worth it  )

Intel, all the way DEFO'

I have always opted for the Inted CPU's as they give me what I am looking for, my Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz, 512KB cache (old I have upgraded!!) EASY out performs a AMD Athlon 2800+ @2GHz!

STICK WITH INTEL FOR LIFE XD

currently, i have Intel, q6600.

but AMD has been very good, always had AMD except this time, i went for quad core (when i bought it, q6600 just came down in price, AMD was still very quiet)

i would go for whichever gives most bang for bucks, q6600 after overclock, gives most bang for bucks, so i bought that. if Phonem can overclock to 4Ghz, it might be my next buy

C2D E6400 here, limited OC by mobo sadly, looking to get a P5k-E Wifi and break 3GHz .... however, I'm holding out a little ... maybe AMD next, but then ... a OC'd quad, oh my, if only to be rich and own both!!!

LOL I think you should stay with Intel, I have never liked an AMD system, I am only 15 so I usually have to wait a good few months before I can buy one part LOL! But I do make sure that I can get good INTEL parts ;) I currently only got an Intel Pentium D 915, 2.8GHz 2x2mb cache, I have tried to clock it, by around 400MHz, the increase is barely noticable. I think if you are planning to clock, get a Q6600!!!!
I don't use mine much in the way for gaming though, that is what my Xbox360 is for ;)

I have always been an Intel fan never bothered with AMD, I have the E6600 set at 3.0GHz, however, I have had it running over 3.0GHz, I think it was about 3.4GHz @ 401FSB can't remember but I have pics at home with results (but I am at work at the minute). I have the Q9450 on order and I am keen to do some OC/benching to see what it will do!!

All CPUs are covered by the thermal tripping. Most as far as I am aware if not all have Thermal Throttling, I know that Intel CPUs do, but not too sure about AMD. I am sure they do but can't promise you anything.

well your talking about moving away from intel and onto AMD, i must say they are both good. but a intel core2duo would be best, you must think that an amd3800 2.4ghz beats the P4s back in the day but intel have taken over most of the majority of the market shares. could you please tell us what socket you are on and we can advise on what would be best?

Like Topitoff (http://forum.novatech.co.uk/member.php?u=8944) I got a E8400 as soon as they hit - made a special drive to secure said CPU as fast as possible.

Cracker of a CPU , I run it 3.8Ghz passive winter / 3.6 Passive Summer ((passive meaning no heatsink fan running due to the monster heatsink.)) I like things nice and quite :)

CPU will do 4Ghz+ on air and good cooling over 4.5Ghz on water

I have just upgraded my computer and purchased a new Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 (E0 stepping). All that I've done is increased the FSB in the BIOS to 400MHz (and also disabled C1E Halt State etc) and with a multiplier of 10x have so far managed an overclock from 3.3GHz to 4.0GHz. This is using an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 CPU cooler. Very happy with this CPU and hope to overclock it some more.

Currently (counting a spare and one I'll be giving away soon) 6/7 boxes here are AMD. The exception is my laptop.

I've never been interested in being the fastest PC in town but I've gone for what I felt offered me reasonable performance for the money. Rightly or wrongly, that took me in the AMD direction, at least from the K5 . I've never seen reason to change so these days, I think there is a habit factor too.

I guess our "main PC" is the one we use most of the time. That would be our MythTV server. I've just upgraded that from E1200 to E5200. Can't seem to get it beyond 1.7 GHz per core, so I'll have to check up on the BIOS settings tomorrow. Unfortunately our TV doesn't display the BIOS menu, so I'll have to connect up an LCD monitor.

Power consumption seemed to drop about 5 Watts (probably due to the 45nm technology), although I have chewed that up and more my upgrading to high performance Geil memory. Hey-ho.

I've allowed Myth to run 1 job at high priority (e.g. commercial flagging), so this dedicates at most one core, leaving the other free for playback and recording. This is more than enough. The commercial flagging can run up to about 400 fps, which is 16x real time.

Not tried overclocking this yet. I'm more likely just to leave this at standard clock settings, I have more than enough power now.

I tend to standardise on Intel S775 processors, but have a couple of Atom 330 boards. These seem perfectly adequate for lightweight gaming, surfing and video playback.

It states a D0 chip on the sticker on the box.

If you got hold of Tech support, and not been posting in here you would have had it resolved by now. Yes there as Novatech staff on here but they cant be on here at the same time as they are working. Anyone can make a mistake like that, its not hard as both boxes are the same at a quick glance.

Hard to believe I know but my main pc has an elderly intel pentium 4 M 3.2Ghz cpu. runs all my games brilliantly so I ended up selling all my intel and amd multi cores including the Q6600, e6300, e4300, Pentium D 805 and AMDx2 4400 and 5000. Im sure I will return to multi core some day but for now I dont have the need.

My current rig-

Intel P4 m 3.2Ghz (great with speedstep :-) )
Scythe shuriken cooler
ASrcok i945 chipset motherboard
2 x 1gb DDR800 ram
CiT 480w psu (pretty much silent)
AMD / ATi Powercolour 5770 graphics
IDE optical
IDE 160gb HD (soon to be replaced)
Vista home premium
superflower beige case with side and top windows

I really do agree with gwendes on the whole intel v amd thing, in practice you wont see a huge ammount if any difference in similar priced AMD or Intel cpus, only benchmarks can really show a difference there.

Intel i5 2500k

I just feel that in day to day activity Intel wipe AMD. Especially for mobile processors.

My AMD lappy sits crying in the shadow of my Missus Intel laptop.
