Because of another fault I tried to repair windows by using the windows XP SP2 cd. I missed a couple of key strokes and ended up reistaling windows XP completley.
As a result I lost the lot. I had backed up data so no propblems there. I used the disc supplied to reinstal drivers to get things like the speakers working again.
When all was done, the machine now does not even admit to having any wireless internet connection hardware.
When I look at device manager, the only thing not installed is the Network Controller under Other Devices. When I click on the Network controller it says manufacturer unknow and says the hardware driver is not instaled.
So where do I go from here? Any help would be appreciated. I have been trying to sort this for 5 days now and I'm getting a bit despodent.
Thanks anyone in advance
John

You would have had a seperate Driver CD for the Wireless Lan Drivers.
We use two different wireless cards at Novatech.
An Intel Card or an MSI Card.
In order to provide the correct driver we need to know which one you have. Unless you know then we can just provide driver.
Please can we have your unit serial Number which should be on a small white sticker labelled like the following xxxxxxx-***

Thank you for your prompt reply
I had deduced from othe correspndence that I had an intel or MSI card. Sadly, I do not seem to have the wireless lan disc. It may help to know that we are in Spain, where we live most of the time, and there is a chance that the disc is still "at home". I did have the windows disc and the Drivers disc with me so I suspect I didn't get a wireless LAN disc. Why isn't the driver for the LAN on the disc with all the othet drivers?
The unit serial No is 7073436-001. I sincerley hope that you can help.
Thanks

A Post script
I will be back in UK in Hayling on 26th July. If I arrive on your doorstep early one morning could you please give me the disc with the drivers on so that I can just install it / them without all the fuss and bother of downloading and burning discs etc.
As an OAp I don't have much more hair to pull out ........
Cheers
John PS its raining here in ES

The reason the Driver is not on the CD is because the Wireless Card is a seperate item to the Laptop chassis and as we use more than one card we have to provide the appropriate CD for the wireless card we fit. The Main Driver CD is for the hardware that is intergrated to the mainboard in the laptop such as Video, Audio, Lan etc.
This is not a problem we can provide a CD to you.

Thanks for your very prompt reply
I can accept tha explanation as to why the driver is not with the others. I am a bit miffed that a disc wasn't supplied with the laptop for the WLAN.
Did you deduce what wireless card I had? If I have a spare moment before my departure I may try a download and then I can test it with the wireless access point I have connected to my router.
Is it also possible to send the disc anyway to my UK address so that it is there for my return - sort of belt and braces approach.
It'll save me a trip to Portchester and save me queuing for some time and also it'll be one less person in the queue.
Many thanks for your help.
John
Could a forum admin take note of the above address please, pass it on to relevant person and edit it out!!
Maybe I'm just too paranoid these days :(

Thanks everyone for your help. In Spain I have broadband but in UK only dial up so its not so important.
However, when I arrived on Wed I thought there would be a disc in the mail with the Intel wireless drivers on.
I wonder if it would be possible for Novatech to do that for me please. It will mean one less person in the Q and a trip to Portchester from HI I would rather not have to make.
Thanks again, I am sure we are almost there

I don't seem to have received a reply from my last post requesting novatech to send me the Intel wireless drivers.
I seem to have fallen down the cracks
In anticipation
