Hi

I have a maxfire laptop which won't recognise any cd's or dvd's as it says please insert a cd even though one is in the drive.

This laptop was only bought in Jan and it looks like it doesn't have the drivers on there anymore. All i know is that it was a matshuita drive Product Code is NNB-360, Model No is 259KI1 and s/no is 7079828-004.

Could someone help me to find out how i can get this working again.

Thanks

does the drive show in my computer or device manager?

have you installed and new software on the pc? i have seen a lot of problems with cd drives afrter installing norton software. if you have installed any norton software i would try uninstalling that and seeinf ig the drive works.

an easy way to check if the problem is hardware or software related is to try booting to a bootable cd like a windows disk. if the laptop boots to a cd the problem can only be software related. if it does not boot to a cd i would guess the problem is hardware related.

if you have a black and white novatech recovery disk and try booting to it, if it does boot (the screen will go blue and will say something like setup is inspecting your hardware) restart the laptop and remove the cd. if you dont reboot the laptop after about 30 - 60 seconds after booting to the cd it will go into the recovery process and wipe the hard drive and start installing a fresh copy of windows.

if the laptop does not boot please call tech support on 0870 112 0612 so we can generate a returns number.

if the laptop does boot to cd if you let us know we can try troubleshooting the problem.

Hi Danno

basically it's my mates laptop who is away at the moment and wants the problem fixed. You can see the drive letter in my computer and windows recognises it as a generic cd/dvd drive. I am just wondering if it has lost the drivers for it. Can you tell me what the type of dvd drive that came with that specific model.

I don't have the recovery cd disks on it as it was bought without an o/s installed on it.

Thanks.

our system does not show the exact model drive used in the system, however as all cd and dvd drives use windows generic drivers there will not be any drivers for download.

if you go into safe mode (tapping f8 on boot) and remove the drive in device manager then reboot windows will reinstall the generic drivers for the drive, this may get it working.

if you dont have any windows cd's you can download an iso to create a bootable memtest cd. more info can be found here.
